Tried this place last night. I thought the Vada Pav (sandwich) was just ok. Interesting but not fantastic or anything

However the Pav Bhaji (curry) and the Tawa Pulav (spicy rice) were excellent. Flavorful with just the e right amount of heat.

Also tried the Pani Puri which are little shells you fill yourself and then drench with a sour mint water. Great combinations of flavors and fun to eat.

Comes with 2 sandwiches and two little sauces. The sweet one goes well with it for my taste. Think it was 8 dollars or so. Will def have again

damn $8? just a little jarring as I've had these for 15 cents on the street.

Depends on the country you're eating it in.

That’s not a vada, that’s a pav of some kind

It’s a sandwich.

To that comment, which was deleted..

You would think it was “white people” style. But it’s actually a second restaurant with same menu as a jsq Indian place. Staffed and so far from what I see frequented mostly by Indian folks.

Menu is not dumbed down or Americanized at all was pretty confusing since I’m not Indian but the lady was nice and explained it

Was really good. Hope it does well, they said they are getting good business

What would be really helpful is if someone could create descriptions of what the menu items are and post them here, and maybe give the descriptions to the restaurant.

Yea I even said it wrong. What I had is a vada pav, which is a vada sandwich; the vada being the potato thingy

To add:

Pav literally means “bread”.

So Vada Pav means the potato thingy and bread.

I don't know what the deleted comment said but I assume it was way off base. My family often makes vada pav and it's pretty much as you describe and as is in the picture. Idk if we grill hamburger buns just because it's convenient to buy in bulk but this is not unique to my family, pretty much the whole western/northern Indian diaspora in the U.S. uses buns for the sandwich (though, I personally prefer brioche or challah).

I agree. I asked them and it’s the same concept at Nando’s in JSQ. The taste was decent and similar. Hope it does well. !

What’s inside of the sandwich? It looks good and I’d like to try it

mooseLimbsCatLicks OP t1_it9u1xx wrote

It’s potato, kind of like the Inside of a samosa. Tastes good to my American palate. Little bit of kick

It sounds (and looks) delicious! Adding it to my list of places to try around town.

It's basically boiled potatoes mashed and cooked with few condiments. It's then drenched in a mixture of chick pea flour +water +some spices. Then you deep fry it till golden brown.

Delicious! Sounds like something that’s right up my alley.
