The bagels don’t taste good. The service is so far below sub-par I’m not sure the English language contains words for it.
Who are these people waiting in line for 30 minutes?
Why??

Obviously people waiting for the best bagels in Jersey City.
the one on Bergen Ave is fine.
It’s the only decent bagel within walking distance. I don’t understand the confusion
It's honestly not THAT bad. Sure, it's not the best of the best, but the amount of hate it gets is as much a meme now as "LUXURY HOUSING".
Location is convenient that's why people go. Service is just fine, workers are busy.
It's been a while since I've eaten at Wonder Bagel, but when I lived in DTJC (now in JSQ), I absolutely loved Wonder Bagel and would eat there once or twice a week. But, you need to make sure you a bagel that's recently out of the oven. If you get a stale bagel, it'll be bleh. If you get your bagel toasted, that's your fault and on you.
I was particularly a fan of their whole wheat bagels. Chewy deliciousness.
I have no idea how it's these days though.
Agreed. The one on Jersey .. not so much.
It’s pretty crazy that jersey city/Hoboken has 0 good bagel shops. Not sure how that is even possible.
There is a lack of quality bagel shops in the area. Avoid the 9-10:30am rush on Saturday and other mornings. You can also order online ahead.
Their service could use some improvement, but they’re a bagel shop, not a sit down restaurant with waiter service.
I ordered a lox bagel sandwich the other day (online in advance) and they gave a heaping amount of lox in my bagel. Was a great start to my day.
Edit: forgot “service”*
The downtown location really went down hill when that cat stopped overseeing the operation. Once the cat left the quality control all but disappeared.
Just a ball of dough with no flavor
The one is Bayonne is pretty good.
My theory…they’re mobbed up. This is 100% speculation with zero facts but it’s the only thing that makes sense. Why else would there be only 1 bagel place but 10 taco joints within a one mile radius?
With no real competition, they can be as good or bad as they want to be. If someone thinks they can make a better bagel and serve each one with a smile, maybe there’s a business opportunity for them!
They are hit or miss. I only go for bagels, I found they skimp on the BE&Cs. Sometimes my bagel is harder than other times, and the amount of cream cheese you will get is always up in the air. If you get your food exactly how you like it, its going to be a good day go play the lottery.
Searched too long for this. I live in NY now and I still try and stop by that spot every time I’m back.
I just tried the downtown location last week. I had the salmon salad. Probably the nasty thing I’ve eaten EVER
If it’s so bad, why are you eating there?
Never been to the downtown wonder bagel. But the one in the heights is very good imo.
Maybe these posts come from people who love the place and are trying to make the lines shorter?
The bagel spot in North Bergen off of JFK isn’t bad.
I am not an expert but i actually enjoy obagel in hoboken.
Boycotting wonder bagels. Driving to buon appetito bagel cafe in Bayonne is worth it.
iirc that cat's name was Cookie and the city made them remove it. Like the one thing they choose to enforce
Haha smart
It's NJ! Literally, Jersey City. We should have good bagels. We should have multiple good bagel places!
Owner is a child molester
Afghans own it. You can be sure there’s rats running around at night
The original one on sip + 440 is fine too.
Your opinion is the only non pretentious one I have seen. A lot of people here are saying that there are no other bagel shops within the entire city limits of Jersey city. Makes no sense.
The ones on Danforth and the one on 1/9 both are good IMHO
The bagels are awful. Not worth the wait. A friend of mine just opened a place in Montclair called Harvey's hand rolled. It's worth the 30 mom drive (vs the 30 min wait for wonder bagels) and they're just as good as any NYC bagel! Hopefully they decide to open a 2nd spot in JC
The heights location always tasted good, but damn they messed up the order e v e r y time without fail. Didn’t go downtown enough to notice issues, but honestly never thought there was good enough competition anywhere in JC to not justify waiting 30 min for a slightly, slightly above average bagel (IMHO)
I love the one in the heights. Never understood why they get so much hate.
When they rebuilt it, they *almost* got a bagel-shaped window, which would have been awesome. They settled for a circle.
A little washable marker and they can have a bagel in the window. The owners would like that, I'm sure.
Bodega cats automatically make any store better, can't believe they would do that to Wonder Bagel.
the everything bagel is like a plain that got spit on and fell on the floor and accidently got some of the everything on it.
Wonder bagel isn’t AWFUL but I’ve had better bagels. They draw a crowd because it’s the only place in JC making bagels. For a state known for bagels, it’s pitiful though
literally wondering why a better bagel business won’t just open up in the heights. I feel like it wouldn’t be that hard to top + steal business from
Stop going to the downtown one. The Sip Ave one is fire.
Don’t know what Wonder Bagels you go to, but the one by Journal Square is pretty good. The bagels seem to be a bit smaller than before though.
Wonder why?
Yeah the Bergen Ave one is always super fast. Sip Ave one is run by morons.
Well, I am an expert and I can tell you, undoubtedly, Bagels on the Hudson is the only one I actually enjoy.
Hoboken Hot Bagels (6th and Washington) is great - best bagel around imo. People don’t care for their hot sandwiches (ham, egg and cheese, etc.) because they don’t have a kitchen to do them properly but the bagels themselves are great and their cold cut sandwiches are good too.
They deliver to JC but are currently closed for renovations.
Man I must be going at the worst times then because the one on Bergen always takes forever. Breakfast, lunch, whatever. Only thing they do that’s fast is taking my money at the register before getting me my order.
I’ve been eating Bagels on the Hudson lately and I loveeee them, so fresh.
Gotta hit the original on Sip Ave
This is the part that is maddening. It used to be good! At some point ~5ish years ago the quality at the downtown location went all the way downhill.
Maybe, I guess I'm generally there like 9, 930 which is probably after the morning rush. But even on weekends there aren't insane lines like downtown. Honestly crazy to me that downtown doesn't have another bagel place. There was that short-lived NY Nagel Cafe on Newark Ave that had grocery store bagels. Giant disappointment.
Quite a hot take. The Sip Ave location is the only one I trust. They make a slammin’ vegetable foccacia and I love that they do a whole roasted turkey for sandwiches on Sunday. Been a while since I’ve been there so I hope they still do both of those things…
...is Hoboken within Jersey City now? 🤔
The liquor store over on Coles by Lucky 7 has their cat hennessy who is amazing!
Sip Ave location is superior
Agree, easily my favorite bagel in the area. Can't beat their everything when it's still hot out of the oven and they don't skimp on the seeds/seasoning either.
Wonder if the renovation will include a kitchen. As you said, that is their weak area. I never order a hot sandwich there.
Idk. Last time I went to wonderbagel, like 4 years ago, I ordered a roast turkey sub, paid, and sat down to wait. 30 minutes later I get up to ask if my food is ready, and the person I ordered from and paid asked me what I would like to order, so I'll believe anything at this point.
The one on McGinley square is still pretty good
I say they're morons because the one time I went there and tried to get a bagel with chive cream cheese the lady looked at me like I was speaking a different language. After a couple tries and literally pointing to it I said scallion cream cheese. No dice. Green onions! Nope. Had another lady come over with no luck until a manager finally figured it out. Also they were out of egg everything bagels and that's my jam.
Wonder bagel was never good. Ever. Even when there was no line, the only reason to go was they used coffee ice cubes for their iced coffee. If you were also hungry, you got a dough ball.
There is nothing decent about their bagels unless you’re not from NJ originally. Their bagels are the equivalent if I go to a bagel store traveling in Florida, or Illinois or anywhere else that can’t make good bagels or pizza! Sure. It’s round. It has a hole. Not a good bagel. But you do you! Enjoy!
On my bucket list is to leave corporate America and bring the people of jersey city the bagels they deserve. I make my own bagels. They’re great, thinking of a farmers market table to start. bc obviously retail rent is atrocious. I grew up with Sonny’s bagels in south orange. And near where I worked in my 20’s, bagels 4 u in Springfield/millburn. I didn’t get egg sandwiches, you didn’t get scallion cream cheese on a single bagel. You got a brown bag of bagels and the option to purchase cream cheese to apply all on your own! You could make an egg at home with some cheese and bacon, and it would probably cost $3. The storefront in SO was tiny They just sold bagels and things you could put on bagels (even though you probably had all those ingredients at home.) If I can actually make this happen, you’re not getting coffee, you’re not getting eggs. Your getting a good, nah, great bagel to do with how you wish. Wonder bagel is fast food. I’d be just a great bagel.
Place is still there but I think they go by International Cafe now.
They got Hennessy a friend! She is still quite scared and hides in the basement
Idk about other locations but the one on central ave needs to install a damn exhaust vent system. Everytime I walk out of that store I reek of food.
Was referring to the post that brought up Hoboken.
Cookie is sleeping right now on my bed and enjoying retirement 🐱
All I can say is that ever since Cookie moved in with us almost 6 years ago we have never seen a bug or rodent in our kitchen. Perhaps it’s a coincidence but she may have had other duties other than sleeping on the counters at the bagel store.
Go to cangianos. their bagels are awesome (cooked in a pizza oven!)
Ahhhh! Yes I remembered they adopted her out. Hi cookie!
"Meeerrrrrr ::purrr::" -Cookie
Agreed. It's also pretty much the only bagel place in the Heights.
I like the one in McGinley Square, but overall it doesn't compare to bagels in NYC at all. Had I the space, I would buy a stand mixer and make my own.
Second the coffee cubes! But the Sip Ave location is by far the best. They always have the "better" egg bagels on the weekends. You simply have to call ahead about 10 minutes and just pick up.
Too true. Four people will stand talking to each other and then act inconvenienced when you ask if you can order
Sure, but it is not Wonder Bagel's fault that no one else has opened a better place in JC. They are, fine.
Or heaven forbid you're not ready to order!!

Does anyone remember when fulop was volunteering there? That guy is cray cray

Every time someone posts about wonderbagel the tales get taller and taller. Next post will be someone waited 2 hours in line and the guy behind the counter spit at him.
It’s not the best bagel place, but jeez.
