I don’t think a building can evict you that quickly. If your landlord can be contacted, I suggest you let them know asap. Tell them what’s going on and give them a timeframe of when you’ll get them the rent. More than likely, they’ll understand and at most tack on a late fee. No landlord wants to go thru the lengthy process of eviction especially in NJ. If worse comes to worst and you’re extremely desperate (and I really don’t recommend this), you can do a cash advance on a credit card if you need cash asap. But again, I really don’t recommend this as you’ll dig a bigger hole for yourself and end up paying more.

Fortunately and unfortunately my rent is low and my landlord knows it. I got into the unit with my girlfriend while the landlord was clearly desperate because of whatever was going on with her during the pandemic. Now that the pandemic seems to be less of an urgent matter she’s happy to boot us and find someone willing to pay more. The process doesn’t scare her at all.

Do you have a lease? Doesn’t change the eviction laws because you have a good deal.

it’s still illegal to just immediately evict you because of late rent. have you told your landlord what’s going on with your pay?

Last month I had a conversation with the regional manager of Dykes lumber who was saying they simply can't get anyone who will do the cabinet design and spec work for the semi custom cabinets. Give them a call.

landlord can't legally kick you out that quickly and if she tries to you can claim squatters rights. also what the hell is going on at your job

My friend drove for Uber when he was unemployed and looking for work. Could you do that? Gig work like Uber/Lyft is probably quicker to get started and start earning than more traditional, salaried type roles.

It’s funny you say that. Im signing up for Instacart now but I’m worried about how long it may take to earn $800.

HappyArtichoke7729 t1_itwg2mw wrote

With Instacart, it will take FOREVER to make $800. Ain't gonna happen by Nov 5, and you'll use up all your time trying.

It's also something you get better at as you do it, so at first you won't be making much at all. You'll just be walking around a store for 30 minutes trying to figure out where the gluten-free dried prune wine flavored cake batter mix flavored ice cream cookies are located. But you found the regular ones, and they want the fat free version.

See if you can get a quick loan via flex plan, i know Citi cards allow you to do that. Then pay it back asap

Someone already mentioned Taskrabbit — given your experience perhaps also see if Handy has opportunities for work

Would task rabbit be an option?

They come up saying there’s no positions in the area.

Yeah, it’s been like this for months. They only open up a few slots randomly without notice.

They literally have too many people working as Taskers and not enough job

most leases just have late fees (mine was $35 extra) if you paid rent late.

Custom cabinetry? DM me if you can build one of these: https://zenbooth.net/

These have been getting lot of traction lately. If you can build a nice looking one ensuring good quality, you can probably flip these for quite some profit. But it’s not a quick cash thing.

[deleted] OP t1_itxixe2 wrote

In this case, it would be a quick cash thing. I have one and need to replicate it for less than the MSRP. If it works out, I'd like a dozen. If OP (or someone else) is interested, hit me up!

Edit: Looks like OP deleted account. If someone else is interested, DM me.

Why not get a credit card?

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. Maybe you could’ve delivered the message more gently, but using a credit card for this is a bad idea.

Have you looked into the labor laws yet? This sounds like it potentially may violate them based on the very limited context provided.

2

DirectorBeneficial48 t1_itx6dd4 wrote

It does, but that won't help him quickly enough to pay the rent

01111010t t1_itx76vu wrote

I hope that after you solve the rent problem you slap the book of labor laws to this employer to try and prevent this from happening again. Also to get your money.

cyclaud t1_itx3bmb wrote

NY has ERAP currently, not sure if NJ does. Gives you eviction protection and can pay arrears.
