BIG NEWS FOR McGINLEY SQUARE!! I know this probably means nothing to 90% of JC residents but I've been waiting for this ever since I moved to MSQ almost 17 or 18 years ago. Remember this is not downtown JC it's not even JSQ but guess what!?! MSQ finally has a 24 x 7 anchor store!!!! Yes!!! The Subway on Montgomery and Bergen Ave is open 24 x 7!! I peeked into the Astor Bar at 1 am to seee if there was any food left from the Halloween party tonight. The party was still going strong but didn't see any food. To my great surprise the Subway across was still OPEN - I sauntered over and ordered a sub and asked the guy when it closed and said that I was surprised it was open late and he was like: Sir we are now open 24 x 7 since September. How amazing is that!!! If you have been a long time MSQ resident like me you will remember the old days when there was literally nothing open after 10 or 11 pm..our friends made fun of us for moving to the burbs where everything closed early.. then Carvao started opening up until 2 am.... then the MSQ Pub opened up... and then the pandemic hit... Carvao no longer is open that late.. MSQ Pub still is thank goodness.. and now we have an even better ** 24x7 ** option!! Right in our hood.. hopefully this entices other restaurants to open 24x7 in our hood.. I'm so so happy.. just wanted to share.. lol... please support our local MSQ 24x7 Subway! thanks!

Had no clue there was even a Subway at Montgomery and Bergen. Good news for night owls!

Thank you for teaching me the word saunter. I'm going to try to saunter somewhere today and then mention it to someone.

I remember when St. Peter's University Tower was supposed to be built on that spot with lots of retail and a multi-screen movie theater. Guess that dream is over.

The tower was actually supposed to be built on the other side of Subway - between Tuers and Jordan although the Subway owners did get concerned it would swallow up their area as well. Not sure what happened to the plans for the tower.. I'm sure St. Peters will get around to it if they still own that parking lot.. https://www.nj.com/hudson/2014/08/saint_peters_universitys_mcginley_square_project_greenlighted_by_jersey_city_planning_board.html
