That's the fun thing about the past 30 years of MMA existing - we've learned that nearly all of this mcdojo stuff is useless.

Do whatever you like, but anytime I see some of this ineffectual nonsense marketed as "life protection skills", I'm gonna remind people that they're full of shit and you're being sold snake oil. Hell, someone posted about Muay Thai gyms just the other day - now there's a martial art that's shown to have solid merit. Go take some MT classes instead if you want to learn part of how to defend yourself via a martial art.

Pretty sure someone doing shit like this vs someone who doesn't, the person who doesn't will probably still get their ass kicked.

This is a couple steps up from the DUST guy on social media, depending on how kooky the instructor actually is.

This is karate not wing chun. You may want to familiarize yourself with with Machida, St Pierre, Lyddell if your going to be a keyboard warrior and not make uneducated comments. ā€œLife protectionā€ because the focus is not sport. Emphasis is stopping a surprise attack not dueling. Covering, evading, striking, standing grappling.

I'm well aware of who those folks are - I cover the sport for a living and know a lot more than you do. Chuck Lidell never used karate in his bouts. He was a wrestleboxer who took a punch to give one until his chin gave out and then he just took a punch and went night night. GSP spent his entire career primarily using wrestling, boxing and positional grappling. Both Machida brothers are some of the closest we ever had to working the old TMAs into the mixed portion of the modern sport. Lyoto at least had great success with his footwork and using a few principles to go along with the massive amounts of grappling training (everything from bjj to sumo) he went through.

Stopping a surprise attack lmfao, thats how I know you're full of shit.

I wrestled, trained bjj and sambo and kickboxing in the 90ā€™s. As great as all that is itā€™s not for everyone. Not everyone wants or can do high level thai or wrestling. They might be old or have other issues. You canā€™t hold onto conditioning. How many 50 year olds do you see in mma? If you donā€™t understand surprise attack then youā€™ve never been jumped. And surprise goes both ways. Life protection is just that. Saving your life. If you can engage someone in a duel that also means you can run away. Thatā€™s not self defense. I was clear that this is not for engaging in a duel with someone. I can overlook youā€™re rudeness but if you donā€™t think you can stop a sucker punch or tackle and create an opportunity to get away then thereā€™s no point in continuing this conversation.

Lol the guy really into PokĆ©mon go is also covering ā€œthe sportā€ (apparently different boxing orgs, mma, Muay Thai, are all covered by the same people) as a living. Sure buddy.

One, "the sport" refers to MMA, which is simply one sport. Two, I write for a website (and newspapers and other sites in the past) and have been credentialed press for dozens of MMA events and handfuls of kickboxing, wrestling and boxing events. Combat sports falls under one generic umbrella as far as most coverage sites go. So regardless of how I meant it, it actually covers your incorrect guess, too.

I would prefer not to link my real name and dox myself, but here's a pic of some of the creds from various events, strategically placed to hide the ones with my name showing https://ibb.co/PcCZxMN don't worry for us, though. We're currently the 5th or 6th largest MMA site on Al Gore's internet.
