Operating engineers probably said "welp it's 3:15 time to wash up and go home." Then dropped the trench box from the bucket like a rapper with a microphone.

I thought the same thing.

Like they ran out of time, needed to close the barricade and get the trucks back in time. So dropped it and split.

Yup and local 825 guys are pretty good with time management. I think it's exactly what you said.
