I found a bird on my front steps, cold and barely moving. I brought him inside to get him a bit warmer, I want to take him somewhere to make sure he's okay before releasing him, but I'm not sure where to bring him. Has this happened to anyone before, and does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: We kept him overnight, he was all feisty and warm, so we released him this morning. Thanks for all your advice :)

Well Thanksgiving is only a few days away. Depending on the weight I'd get that in the fridge. One day for each 4 - 5 pounds of weight.

Your instinct is valiant, Liberty Humane Society takes birds, but more realistically, home depot sells burlap sacks and concrete...

I don’t have any helpful suggestions but I’m so glad for people like you! Our four legged/feathered brethren need people like you!

I found a bird while in Manhattan a few months ago. I called the Wild Bird Fund and they said if the bird is not injured, to leave it near where you found it so that its mother could find it. If it's injured, then you should bring it to the place on the UWS.

I called three vets that day and they all said to call the UWS place. None of them took birds.

Take it home for the night and let it stay in a box, give it some water and some grains to eat

Please in the future don’t release even if they seem well! Take to Wild Bird Fund or Raptor Trust. Folks on the Jersey City Birds Facebook page would volunteer to transport the bird.
