Anyone have any recommendations? I've tried Malfettone Electric more than a few times, and they don't return calls. Just need a smoke detector reconnected (some wiring came loose) and ensure it's connected properly to the second detector in another room. Thanks in advance.

Not that it's totally legal IMO, but I'd hire one of the "handyman" guys who are around for this kind of minor work. This isn't rocket science, and the contractors have bigger fish to fry, which is why you don't get a call back.

Honestly, if you're a homeowner, investing a little time in understanding how to do minor electric like switches, lights, outlets and such as this would save you a lot of time, money and aggravation. Youtube is your friend...

Same with plumbing. I fought 6hrs last weekend a nasty clogged drain. My wife decided to call a plumber, I finally beat the blockage before they decided to show up. But boy was I happy to learn about all those plumbing tools and tricks.

Isn't it fun to be able to walk into the kitchen waving your snake and say to your wife "I just saved us $200"!

Agree with every part of this.

Some of the smaller electricians will do it if they're not busy (it's an easy $150) that day, and in the neighborhood. But nobody is going out of their way for 15 minutes of work. The travel time/parking will eat too much of the profit.

IIRC it's 3 wire... black/white are your usual power (120V ac) and there's a red or blue that's for the communication. It's really that simple.

The fire department in many places will do this for free if you call the non-emergency number. I was one in a different life somewhere else in NJ, and had to do this all the time.

This guy, Roman, is great. Older semi-retired guy, super nice, super knowledgeable and very quick to come. Very reasonable prices too.
