I’m not worried at all. But your mom should try to early vote if she’s worried. Elderly people utilize it the most, it can be helpful.

Or sign her up to vote by mail. It's too late to sign up for this year, but you can sign her up for future years. Nothing beats making your choices from the comfort of your own home.

Yes I can’t believe I forgot that. Mail-in is an even better option.

I voted early at city hall. Super easy if you have the free time to pop down. I doubt there will be any issues with armed poll watchers.

Nope. Never happened before and won’t happen here. The corruption in jersey doesn’t happen around the polling booth. Happens elsewhere or used to anyway. Went and voted over at city hall. In and out in 2-3 mins.

Your mom is watching too much CNN 😆

What is CNN saying? Sounds like you must be a regular viewer yourself.

Thanks for all of your comments. I'm going to try to get her over to City Hall so we can vote tomorrow. Very helpful, thanks again 👍

I was about to recommend that you go with your mom if that would help assuage some of her concerns. And buy her lunch after!

Went today around 4pm. Super easy. Metal detector check at entrance. Head downstairs following arrow sign and give them your govt ID, you sign and they issue a long paper to feed the voting machine with your info. Into the booth. You’re in and out of that building in 5 minutes.

You don’t need to show ID to vote. (Unless you're voting for the first-time in your county, or registered to vote by mail and didn't provide an ID number or copy of ID when you registered.)

Tell her to bring pepper spray in case gangs of Education Matters supporters try to influence her vote. All kidding aside I’ve been voting last 15 years here and few times polling took place inside housing projects and never had any issues.

Nope. If you encounter such folks just record them and tell them to fuck off. They have no right to confront or intimidate you. They’re banking on you being afraid them, but you don’t have to be.

With early voting and a lot of folks who already voted by mail, voting at polling stations should be a breeze

  1. early voting in-person is going on now and it’s been quiet so far.
  2. if you truly have issues with electioneering and intimidation call the county board of elections. they’ll deal with it quickly.

There are orgs that help people (often elderly, but not just) get to the polls. I’ve volunteered to do it in the past, though now I can’t remember the name of the group. Maybe she’d feel better if someone went with her?

(But to answer your question, I’m not anticipating problems.)

There won’t be any crazy Republicans threatening voters up here. She will be fine.
