Hi, I just moved in to the liberty harbor area from the southern US. Where do people in the area recommend picking up groceries? I’m very close to the Jersey St. light rail and about .5 mile from the Grove St. path. Anything helps!
Oliva's and Sprove are also options closer to the Grove St PATH. Oliva's is a bit smaller and more bodega-like (although still pretty large given the 2 floors) but have later hours than Lee's.

This is all solid information. There’s also a Costco not too far away, but you’d probably need a car (you didn’t mention if you had access to one or not).
The Target near Newport mall doesn't have everything but they have some basics too. If you have a car Bayonne has a Costco and a Walmart supercenter.
ShopRite is more expensive than Target or Lidl.
I'm not positive this is 100% true, but even so, ShopRite's proximity to the light rail makes such a difference if you're lugging around a ton of groceries. I often end up Ubering home from Target, which definitely wipes out any potential savings lol.
If you shop at both you will find it is true. Aldi is cheaper still, but its location for public transit is horrible.
I Live in liberty harbor as well I go to Shop Rite, BJ'S and 99 Ranch. Lots of options

P&K is a good little green grocer on Newark Ave.
Gotta second P&K, thier fruits/ vegetables have always been tops, they have very very good prices, and for those in need of Flowers I've always had good luck with theirs lasting longer than any others.
Plus their such a nice family and long time Jersey City locals.
KeyFoods might also be a tiny bit more than Shoprite, but they carry some brands that are great and hard to find at other stores in the area.
liberty harbor is not South Jersey City lol
Shoprite on Marin Blvd is best for that area. You should get a shopping cart for your groceries, especially if you don't have a car. I got this one from Amazon. It's the best!

Welcome. Our all purpose flour in the north is different than the south's, that's why your biscuits don't work. (you'll find out soon enough, if applicable to you). Try a talyor ham/egg/cheese sandwich; Sam AM & SCRAM both have owners with southern roots that influence the menus.
The shoprite in JC is the worst shoprite. Knowing that going in is power.
You can lightrail/drive to the hoboken shoprite or Trader Joe's.
There is a Whole Foods dropping in sometime in the next decade by St Peters. P&K is a good green grocer, sometimes Target has good grocery deals. 99 Ranch can work for many things & is walkable.
I do most of my shopping in the suburbs for the best price & selection, so if you have a car this may be a way to go depending on your needs.

Target is accessible from the light rail if you walk west from Hoboken or north under the tracks from Newport.
Or go south on the light rail and Lidl is right across the street from the 34th St station.

Agree with another poster Shoprite in Jersey City is on the light rail line. If you get yourself one of those fold up carts, easy shopping via light rail.
If you have a car, I personally drive to Bayonne as the Stop and Shop is next to a Costco and a Walmart so everything is right there. It's about a 10-15min drive.

TBH, i get most of my groceries from the two mom-n-pops near Grove Street, bc they are both run by nice humans and i like knowing the people i'm giving my money to: Lee's Continental Fruit & Veg, and P&K Fruit market. P&K is run by the sons of the original owners, and they're always open to getting in new products.
there will be a whole foods opening down on columbus in the paulus hook area, too (though evil amazon empire owns it).
I like the acme on 18th street
Best Anvils, Rocket cars, and comical bundles of TNT in Jersey City.
There are also several grocery delivery services out there if you're the kind of shopper who doesn't need to fondle every squash.
In what world is the Liberty Harbor area considered "South Jersey City"?
This is literally why locals hate newcomers who act like Downtown JC is ALL there is to Jersey City. Ever looked at a map of the city where you have chosen to live? If anything, it would be much more accurate to describe the Liberty Harbor area as central JC. It is literally like the halfway point in an imaginary line from the southernmost point of JC to the northernmost point.
It's definitely not south JC but we understand where they are, so it's okay. Let's be a tad more welcoming.

ShopRite for big grocery runs. The light rail goes to Harsimus Cove, which is literally next to the parking lot.
Lee's Continental on Grove has been a hidden gem for me. Also, Olivia's on Newark Ave is great for fresh fruit and meat.
99 Ranch is an Asian grocery store, so it's amazing if that's what you're looking for. Can be hit or miss for other staples, though.
