I was convinced someone cut my lights in multiple spots one year. That was until my neighbor showed me the footage of the squirrels stealing the C7's after they chewed through the wires.

I personally think Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving is a big no no, but I don’t feel strongly enough about it to fuck someone’s shit up over it.

tangerineunderground t1_iwvs39l wrote

Why do you care what someone else puts up? “Big no no”? You can fuck right off with that.

−9

Wildwilly54 t1_iwvt5h4 wrote

It’s called a faux pas. I don’t care at all what you put up, leave it up all year for all I care. But I’ll laugh at you.

tangerineunderground t1_iwvtm8w wrote

Faux pas is fine. No no implies it’s illegal or at least unethical. You can laugh all you want.

Right? Who the fuck puts up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving? What a twisted mind.

Listen, last year someone stole my pumpkins from our front door. We had a camera that recorded it and it was depressing and ridiculous to say the least.

(here is the Jersey Journal piece but it is a pay for piece.  Nice picture of decorated house…sad)
How the Grinch tried to steal one Jersey City street’s Christmas spirit

By    Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

“Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming, ‘I must find some way to keep Christmas from coming!’” — Dr. Seuss, How The Grinch Stole Christmas

The Christmas villain did not pay a visit to New York Avenue in Jersey City this week, but someone — perhaps also with a heart two sizes too small — did their best impression.

A homeowner whose Christmas display is an annual winner in a countywide contest says his labor of love was vandalized by someone who snipped the wiring on multiple strands of expensive LED lights outside his home.

Edward Roman said it takes a good month for he and his husband to erect the elaborate display at 413-415 New York Ave., and he was stunned when they found the damage Thursday morning.

“We go bigger every year,” said Roman. “We do it for the neighborhood, for the kids. ... It’s disheartening to see this happen because it makes you not want to continue doing it.”

The couple started creating the display on Nov. 1, and it’s still incomplete, Roman said. Now he has to practically start over.

The dazzling display is a perennial champion in the Hudson Media Group’s Best Christmas Decorated Home Contest that covers Jersey City, North Bergen and Bayonne.

Roman said at least three strands of the lighting were damaged. “They are $50 to $75 each. I have to un-connect everything to see how much damage was done. There may be more strands cut that I don’t even know about.”

Cut them in multiple places? Sounds like someone doesn’t like your lights. Some people get jealous and might hate all the attention you’re getting. Some people are just dicks. Really puny ones. But don’t give in! And put a camera outside. Get the clowns picture and tell everybody in the neighborhood who he is and what he did. Why keep all that hate to yourself? That’s selfish! Fix the lights and put them up again! If you can, add more just to piss him off. As a matter of fact, put up a lot more! Some people are just despicable!

Someone stole Halloween decorations off my front yard this year. My Nest camera caught it on video. It was pretty sad. Just why?

This is a real shame.

Unfort there seem to be so many people nowadays that really do not have a care/thought/respect for anybody else's property or feelings. I recently bought a video doorbell and as part of that, I opted-in to the local (Jersey City) community message board. I am shocked at just how many packages are being stolen DAILY from people's doorsteps - and these thefts are all being recorded by the video doorbells! Some thieves dont even try/bother to hide their faces.

Heartbreaking. It seems that nothing is sacred. I was raised to believe that God so loved a beautiful piece of land that He carved His Son’s initials on it, JC. I’m sorry this type of stuff happens anywhere. I’m a little more sorry that it happens in Jersey City.

Maybe theres a history here. a huge display every year maybe really obnoxious and disruptive and people have tried to address it but this person doesn't listen. maybe.

JeromePowellAdmirer t1_iwupepm wrote

Ah yes, those obnoxious and disruptive...Christmas lights. That's a complaint I can't take seriously unless you also support slashing tires on dirt bikes, ATVs, and modified exhaust cars.

RAWisROLLIE t1_iwwb8vp wrote

My neighbors have a Christmas display that is accompanied by a loop of 20 Christmas song clips that loudly play for hours every evening in December. It can be heard from inside our apartment. We tolerate it because they seem to be nice people and I generally appreciate their other seasonal decorating efforts, but I would 100% understand if this caused someone who doesn't fully appreciate "All I Want For Christmas Is You" to snap.

But the point is that yes, obnoxious and disruptive decorating absolutely exists.

mickyrow42 t1_iwuqc0z wrote

have you seen some of the displays people do these days? Music, animatronics, synchronized light shows. Plenty of stories over the years of over the top displays drawing onlookers that disrupt a neighborhood and turns into big fight between neighbors. not that unreasonable a possibility to me.

BeMadTV OP t1_iwux7jx wrote

I don't think Jersey City has anything on this level. If so, where? I'd love to go. Much closer than Old Bridge.

6

mickyrow42 t1_iwuyb1z wrote

For sure. Not saying I knew of anything, just that it’s possible. Not much info to go on. Seems very aggressive and deliberate for a random act. Somehow I guess just raising the possibility is interpreted as me condoning it.

bodhipooh t1_iwv74n2 wrote

Yeah, not sure why you are getting downvoted to badly. You are not wrong... tons of headlines of exactly this happening all over the US. Years of bad communications between neighbors related to massive displays or other grievances can result in some serious shit.
