Stay out of downtown. Look at MLK and Ocean area -- affordable, up-and-coming, plenty to do.

Yo man I am trying to keep my bills low wtf are you doing. Go downtown, stay away from greenville do not come here. If you cant afford downtowm go to the heights. Let me enjoy this cheap tax for a little more before the other half of downtown comes by me and all of a sudden we are doing another tax restructuring.

up and coming for sure. try to lock in somewhere near the light rail and you can move through the city and to MH fairly easily. recently moved out here myself

I love living in the heights. Very safe, communal, relaxed feel. I never feel weird about walking alone (24f), even at night. Lots of great food up here too as well as public parks.

Which areas of the heights would you recommend?

Any offshoot of Central Ave. The 119 bus into Manhattan comes at Central and Congress so that’s a great spot to be close to. I live near Washington park and love that area. If you go father South down Central, you’re closer to the only major gym as well as the post office and more coffee houses/cafes.

Ha! I forgot what my user name was. I lived in Newport back in ‘04-‘07 so maybe they’ve opened better restaurants now that there are 3x the amount of buildings.

People here are lying bc too many affluent people moving to JC and creating affordability crisis for families who grew up here.

Don’t take what you read as gospel.

Downtown is best but most expensive. Heights/journal square are safe but less going on. West Bergen and south the more crime you’ll see.

Prepared to get downvoted for honesty.

You’re going to want to move downtown (if you can afford it)

downtown is a lot of new development, the heights and west side are more low key neighborhoods. greenville is far from transit and elevated crime.

greenville is okay if close to the light rail that can get you to exchange place in ~15 min and to lower manhattan in ~35min. crime is all over the city, dont let this sucker you into paying more than is comfortable for you. South JC is improving rapidly and becoming safer. sharing the latest public safety review here for ref:

Sketch for this person could mean no bike lanes or no taco spots.

Is barely any urban amenities than random corner stores and like 2 restaurants not a good enough reason?

If those establishments skim credit cards, hell yeah! That's sketch as fuuuuuuck!

It all depends on you. I think you should walk around the area. Personally the heights looks fine to me. If you have doubt in the heights about safety, downtown is probably your only option.

Jersey city is over. Look at Secaucus.

Secaucus is still more expensive than JC on the whole
