Is that much different than it's been for awhile? It's looked similar to that for months. Maybe the plastic barrier going down is new-ish?

Is this just a proposed rendering of its progress in 2035?

Photo is from Wednesday evening, but I just saw 2 guys laying out that rebar. If 2 lathers (rebar workers) is the regular crew then concrete won't be poured until next year. Could be that the weather and/or holiday has kept some of the workers home. But it's no longer just a plain dirt floor!

It has been dirt for at least a year with some rebar sticking out of the foundation (which is normal), and was like a month ago last I looked.

The waterproofing (plastic) and rebar is definitely new.

Seriously, what exactly is taking so long? Can the press get anyone from Whole Foods or the city to explain?

I expect to rarely shop there. I’m just mystified at how a project can drag on so long with no end in sight, especially without any concrete (pun intended) updates from Whole Foods, the developer, or the city.

This is a massive engineering project turning it from a garage with ramps to actual floors… inside a building already built. Which means they need to keep the existing building properly supported. And they can’t use cranes to just move beams.

For one. They’re going to give time to let disturbed earth settle. More machinery you use to do it mechanically, more stress you’re going to put on existing adjacent structures.

Same reason road projects seem to “stall”. Letting nature do the work is sometimes preferable.

I’m sure someone did the math on cost/risks.

Financially this whole project makes zero sense to me. Why is Amazon just continually paying for this space

Can you camp out and give us photo updates every half hour on the half hour until it opens?

If anyone is familiar with how long it took to open the Whole Foods in Weehawken they wouldn’t be suprised by how long this is taking.

Who wants to bet that they drop the idea of making this a Whole Foods and convert to the more price-conscious Amazon Fresh?

I'm pretty sure haus25, a 57 story sky scraper that has now been functional for a while, was a parking lot when I first saw the sign that that whole foods was coming soon.

Or maybe it was a grass field. It's so long ago I don't remember exactly.
