Not downtown, but Pepolino in the city has the best cheesecake Iā€™ve ever had. They sell cakes to go if you call ahead. Right now Iā€™m a sucker for Cangianoā€™s in Hamilton Parkā€™s Oreo cheesecake. They also have regular and other flavors that are awesome.

Anthonyā€™s in Bloomfield makes amazing cheesecake. Not Jersey City, but worth it

Coach House in the heights has an EXCELLENT cheesecake. You can try a slice before ordering or picking one up.

Those "variety packs" with a circular cake pre-sliced on a cardboard base with plastic lid, which you can get from BJs with a couple of chocolate slices, couple of strawberry, etc. are rather stodgy and horrible.

Cangianos do a Peanut Butter Cheesecake for $4.99 and it's way beyond what Cheesecake Factory can make. They swap and flip the flavours around weekly; for the price and deliciousness, they're unsurpassable!

New York Cheesecake is good, but Cangianos' Jersey City Cheesecake is better!

I was in Costa Rica once and the chef at the place we were staying was super excited to show us his cheesecake as we were from the NY area. He was building it up and building it up...

When it came out it was made from queso and ... not good. He had very obviously never actually tasted a cheesecake before making his version.

Costa Rican cheesecake is now our go to reference for when we get inexplicably bad food of some kind.
