Hello. My wife and I have been looking at a bunch of places in jersey city Mostly new luxury buildings. Yesterday we went to Lafayette Lofts and seems almost too good to be true. Large space, gated community. We're considering one of the town houses in there.

Anything we should know about the place before we decided to pull the trigger on the place. We're coming from bed stuy

I live in the neighborhood! Lafayette has a lot of character and a few cool businesses but overall is much quieter and has less going on than bed-stuy. Whether you see that as a plus or minus is up to you. Expect to regularly bike or hop the light rail downtown for groceries, nightlife, etc.

What you see is what you get. All the conveniences and problems of new construction condos, nice enough neighbors, Lafayette Park is pleasant, occasional roudiness on Van Horne and Communipaw but nothing you can't walk through.

It's not actually a gated community but it sure feels like one. Gates work both ways and with zero public amenities on the property, it's hard to escape the feeling that you're in a compound. If that's what you're looking for, go for it. If not, there are plenty similarly priced places that are a little less tucked away.

Without doing much online searching at all, I found a bunch of scathing reviews from former tenants. I'd recommend doing lots of research before you pull the trigger.

I was only able to find Google reviews. That's why I'm asking here

I also moved from Bed Stuy not to far from the lofts. If you lived in the stuy the neighborhood won’t feel too “sketchy,” but there is honestly not much to do. We moved from a place not too far from the lofts to a new condo a little closer to LSP, around the corner from Harry’s Daughter and the few other places to go in that area. Its only a few blocks but makes the world of difference. That said, if you are renting, I would go for a less fancy place by Hamilton park. Much easier transition from BK.

I live in this complex, honestly it’s a pretty good bang for your buck, but the neighborhood doesn’t have a ton, and management is practically non existent (which can be good or bad)
