I live downtown near Brunswick and have to pass Blaze cafe and lounge every day and I’m absolutely fascinated by it. It’ll be peak party times Friday and Saturday and it’s completely empty except for the bartender and maybe like, one other person. How is it still open? Who is keeping it in business? Has anyone here ever been inside? These are the burning questions (get it 🔥) plaguing me on a Monday

LPT: in NJ it is illegal to charge a BYOB / corkage fee if a restaurant does not have a liquor license.

Funny anecdote: about ~10 years ago there was a new place in DTJC that was charging corkage fees, got called out on it on what was the predominant local board at the time, they [the restaurant] copped an attitude, and then guess what... someone must have reported them, because that fee disappeared shortly thereafter, and they then tried to smooth things over by groveling in the same thread in which they had copped an attitude. If you are patronizing a restaurant/cafe in NJ that does not have a liquor license and allows BYOB, and they try to charge you a corkage fee, kindly inform them they are breaking the law and refuse the extra charge.

Could be money laundering or they're living off sold liquor license money. Not a bar anymore: https://jerseydigs.com/former-indios-place-liquor-license-transferred-harborside/

Reviews sound like unlike my fur, they are not so black-and-white when it comes to what they charge. Here's one:

>This place has so many hidden fees that they claim is on the menu but isn't. Byob charge, huge extra charge in addition to the extra price for the fruit head. They do a hookah per 2 person min, which is fine except they never took the order of the last couple and tried to charge for them + another hookah. And to top it off, they over charged the tip we gave them.tldr; 'ice' fee, 'fruit' fee, min 2 hookah per person, they charged extra tip

Sometimes people come into some money, plow it into a business, and then find out they are bad at it.

I was just in there Saturday night for the first time and was busy the hours I was there from 11:30 pm until 1:30 am. Hookah was good, I didn't ask but going from reviews I think they do charge a BYOB charge and some people do complain about the odd hidden change.

I'm fascinated by it also. It's a great a great looking bar. Wish it had more business.
