I have graduated with a CS degree at MIT in spring of 2022, and overall, I have been impressed at MIT's CS program and have performed well despite the fact MIT is known for grade deflation (similar to Boston University). For those who can't get into MIT or even BU/Northeastern but want to live in Boston and can't pay the tuition of Wentworth, are UMB and BHCC worth it for computer science and how are the professors like over there? From what I heard, many students switch from CS to IT due to students complaining about CS at UMB. I am curious what are your thoughts about CS at UMB and BHCC?

I have degrees from BC and BU and our kids from UMass Lowell. UMass Lowell was great though I'd recommend talking to the department head to talk about their program as a couple of professors can make a big difference in the quality and rigor of the program. My understanding is that Northeastern is more geared to practice than theory and that's another thing that the prospective student has to decide on.

Jaw drop! Yes I graduated from Wentworth a long time ago ('68) but holy bleep it's gotten expensive. Every other school too I guess. Tuition was $800 my 1st year, not per semester, and $900 the 2nd if I remember correctly. It was a 2-year school then.

BU has grade deflation? I’m feeling a little flattered now. I thought it was inflated.

UML has a stronger CS program than UMB.

BHCC is a community college, so it’s different from a 4-year school like UMB. It’s still a great option because it’s affordable and it has MassTransfer which allows for a more streamlined process to transfer from BHCC to any 4-year state institution.
