I'm not a U.S. citizen. Before I do the six courses they require, do you know if I'm eligible? I see no indication that I am not eligible on the IRS website, but that doesn't really mean much.

I don't believe you have to be a citizen to volunteer. I would suggest speaking to the staff at the Worcester Community Action Council.

I’m looking for a good reason to get out of the apartment that provides some sense purpose outside of the work environment and allows me feel part of the community I live in. I haven’t volunteered a ton in my life so I don’t know what would foot the bill. I suppose working at a food bank would cut it, or mentoring people about my field, or helping out in a retirement home. No idea. I really thought it’d be easier to find something. I guess you have to know people.

Reach out to local nursing homes to see if they need volunteers to read or visit with people. Umass has a volunteer program too

Worcester has a ton of places, I’m a vet and have volunteered at Veterans Inc on grove st if that’s your thing.

Check with local animal shelters & humane societies. Sometimes they need people to help clean the kennels, work the charitable events, etc.

Check with local farms & CSAs. A lot of them are volunteer-based and need locals to help.

Check with the hospitals (Worcester, Framingham, Milford, Fitchburg, Leominster, etc). Some accept volunteers to help with basic administrative stuff.

Check with your town. They need volunteers to work the polls during elections. My aunt does it (and bombards me with messages telling me to vote).
