Controversial opinion here: Antonio's is kind of meh.

Went to UMASS Amherst and lived off this pizza. It's possible that it doesn't stand up to some other pizza places that exist now. But back in the day, there was nothing that even compared. It was either New England Greek-style pizza with sweet sauce (which is a nightmare), or nothing.

Every time I visit the happy valley, I have to get a couple of slices. It could be just nostalgia, but I absolutely love it.

UMass '07. I've eaten pizza all over the country in the ~15 years since. Antonio's avocado quesadilla pizza is still in my Top 5 slices.

Listen here cowboy idiot, Greek pizza is delicious

Flower_Murderer t1_j7vditn wrote

I had it a few times when I drove Uber around there. It isn't bad, but it is kind of baseline.

Greek style is definitely a nightmare, which is most of the stuff near me. I always liked Florence Pizza because they use an arrabiata sauce which adds some zest.

1

ChowboyDan t1_j7veb6n wrote

I also would get slices that just didn't exist elsewhere (black bean avocado, tortellini pesto, salad pizza, etc). There were times I would have it for lunch and dinner. I could eat there every day for a week and never have a repeat slice.

I realize it's not for everyone, but if I were to be limited to eating from one restaurant for the rest of my existence, it would be Antonio's.

CRUST being on there for Pittsfield is really fucking weird. They're not even the best pizza on that street. I'll take Teddy's over them every day of the week. Papa Joe's is the best pizza that I've had here in Pittsfield.

JaKr8 t1_j7x2ch7 wrote

Papa's, now that's off the beaten path, even for Pittsfield. Good stuff, though....

Pisa Pizza in Malden. Been going there since it opened. Their sauce and cheese is so good that I never get any toppings. I usually go for the half-pan pizza but their regular thin crust cheese pizza is second to none. Also 2 for 1 on Tuesdays!

Not a pizza place, but last time I ate at Jacks Abby the pizza was on point. Rail Trail Flatbread in Hudson does a good job too. Also have a soft spot for Papa Gino’s, the pizza I ate most often growing up and still scratches particular itch.

why controversial, gourmet pizza has no limits these days,if it's good it's good.

The key to the best pizza is using real pizza ovens that cook for 12 minutes at 400 instead of baker's oven that cook at 475 for 8.5 minutes, and conveyer belt ovens are even worse.

Garden Pizza in Milford makes a good pizza. If you want your pizza a little greasier, there's also Pizza 85.

If you want really good stuff and are willing to pay a bit of a premium, Prezzo's and Pepperoncini's also make some damn good pies. All of these are in Milford.
