Honestly this is pretty much the right answer. The real answer probably involves “Hockomock”, but for people who don’t know where Mansfield is, I generally say it’s where 495 hits 95 south of Boston.

Most people refer to these areas by the county. In this case, Norfolk and Bristol counties.

When I hear, "Bristol County," I think of the Fall River / Attleboro / Taunton area. When I hear, "Norfolk County," I think of the busy stretch from Wrentham / Foxboro up to Dedham.

Nice job accidentally exposing your alt account. That’s a violation of Reddit’s TOS and can get all your accounts banned. I reported you already so get your trolling done now while you can.

Having grown up in Norton, I can confirm there is no official name for this part of the state. Geographically it’s part of “Southeastern Massachusetts”. Another map labels this area as “Gillette Stadium”.

You can argue it’s the “concerts and football” section of the state, when you take into account that the Xfinity Center is also in that area (or as I like to call it, Great Woods).

Here are a couple of maps showing the area I'm talking about. They're not west in any way, and they're certainly not Cape Cod.

I did some more research and found a map of regions on mass.gov. As far as I can tell, the area in question is divided between Southeast (which includes Cape Cod and the islands) and Metro West, which is confusingly east of the central and western regions.

I guess the question is, does that area have any cohesive characteristic of its own? People talk about the Cape, and Western Mass, and greater Boston. But people don't seem to talk about that area, which I am awfully glad no one has yet called "the armpit" due to its position on the map.

Southwestern Mass I guess? We live in a fantastic area though; Mansfield Crossing, Gillette, Xfinity Center, Wrentham Outlets, bunch of good food options and both Providence and Boston are pretty close. I like it here.

I can help you with Attleboro, it's the closest brazier food dairy queen and the closest army navy store to where I grew up. I guess that's not a very catchy name though

If you're talking about the DQ on Route 1 in North Attleborough, that's also the worst DQ I've ever seen. Check out their reviews on Google Maps; there are so many canned apology responses from the owner that it's absolutely hysterical!

I grew up in Mansfield, lived in Wrentham and North Attleboro and always referred to it at southern MA or the Hockomock area.

I usually refer to those towns as "495 towns" or in the "495 belt" but I know that would equally apply to Andover, Marlborough, Chelmsford, etc.

Foxborough and Wrentham are part of Metro West/the metro west corridor. I’m not sure why Plainville isn’t since it’s so close, Attleboro is a little further out.

Foxborough and Wrentham are more south of Boston than west. The Framingham/Natick area is Metro West.

Mansfield and Attleboro are Bristol County. Foxborough, Wrentham, and Plainville are actually in Norfolk County. But I don’t think anyone in MA identifies as being part of “this/that county”.

SparkDBowles t1_j84hs23 wrote

Is that considered south coast like New Bedford and Fall River?

1

amos106 t1_j8nrwnd wrote

South coast technically doesn't even reach Taunton. South shore is strictly for towns within Massachusetts bay. Hockomock gets close but is a bit east of I-95. Blackstone is also close but that's a bit west. I'd say that those towns are more closely integrated with Hockomock if anything due to the I-95/495 connection. Taunton is squarely Hockomock and it even shares a transit system with Attleboro.
