Just a warning about Greatwoods (as it used to be called and many of us still call it). It is a pain to get to and hell to leave. If you are from a country where you don’t drive much might want to consider that. You’ll be sitting in the parking lot for at least an hour after the show before you get to the highway to start your journey.

At least an hour, sold out shows as long as two hours.

I see, thank you for de heads up, have you ever been to a concert then? Is the sound good and stuff?

theurbanmapper t1_j9ojz65 wrote

I’ve been to dozens of concerts there over the years, but I basically refuse to go at this point, and haven’t been for probably five years. As I remember the sound is good and it is a pretty good venue while you’re there, but I’m well out of date on that info.

Before the pandemic, we thought we'd cracked the code on this venue: Only go to shows where we're interested in the openers, and leave 20 minutes into the headliner before there's any parking lot traffic. Worked tremendously for 30 Seconds to Mars (Joywave and Walk the Moon were awesome, Jared Leto was insufferable), but when we did the same for Heart, we regretted leaving early, because the few songs we heard Heart do were excellent and we wished we'd been there for more. But stuck to the plan.

Did the exact same thing for the 30 Seconds to Mars show!!

thespelvin t1_j9ov2lk wrote

I actually like some of their songs and was kind of psyched to hear them, but between the ten minutes of obelisk lowering and everyone in the band except Jared being situated at the very back of the stage... ugh, get over yourself, dude.

tool22482 t1_j9p1h83 wrote

Saw them at another show and it was an hour of Jared Leto trying to get the crowd to sing for him. Then he said he had to take his shirt off because he lost a bet. Such a douche.

mmelectronic t1_j9t4l2o wrote

The sound is good, as others said though the sound is better in the seats than the lawn section.

Also bring snacks for the parking lot after, or pay for the VIP parking which is the first lot let out.

IntelligentMeal40 t1_j9q4tsk wrote

Getting in was no problem past time I went leaving takes hours. And I even lost my car in the parking lot so I didn’t leave until lots of people had already left, maybe that was the problem, but I would have thought that would give them a chance to get out and away before I even tried to leave. Nope. Hours

I went to the Xfinity Center last summer to see Third Eye Blind as a new driver with a lot of anxiety. It was fine. I had no issues entering and exiting the free lots. BUT, I got there an hour early and the show was far from sold out.

Lawn is truly awful and miserable if you have any interest whatsoever in the actual performance happening onstage. Everywhere else is a wonderful experience with a good view and sound.

papa_jahn t1_j9pnjwu wrote

Lawn is where you get the show, within the show. The people of the lawn are typically people of Walmart, but all boozed up.

I dunno, I saw Pearl Jam from the lawn and while it felt kinda far from the stage, it was an awesome experience. Crowd was great. Parking lot was packed two hours before the show. Maybe the show you went to didn’t attract the best clientele

downwardspiralstairs t1_j9p7d04 wrote

Get real seats because GA at Mansfield are garbage lawn seats and you'll want the cover from either the rain or sun. You'll still be able to get into the pit to thrash if you want. A protip is to pay for the VIP parking.

JaacHerself t1_j9pj5yl wrote

If you’re traveling in, you will need a car. Mansfield is not near Boston and not near the airport. I don’t know about public transportation but I’ve never considered using it to get there.

Seats are worth paying more for over lawn, please trust myself and other commenters. You can barely see what’s going on from the lawn, it’s the cheapest way in the venue and fun if you’re there for a good time but not to enjoy the band. I regret only buying lawn seats for this venue seeing some of my favorite bands. Consider paying for seats.

Despite my tone, I do really enjoy the xfinity center and have been there a bunch of times. Pros: you can tailgate! Arrive early when the parking lots open and set up shop with beers and food. You can eat and drink (without being super obnoxious) before doors open at the show. Grills are allowed from what I remember.

I have also paid up for VIP parking the last few times I’ve been there and it’s MASSIVELY improved the headache of leaving xfinity. Yes, the up charges for everything are annoying, but I’ve realized it’s worth the convenience of time saved. I 100% recommend buying a parking pass as well. You will get out of there in minutes and avoid the hour long traffic jam, and not have to run out of the show halfway through the last song to beat traffic.

Hi Reddit, I'm looking into gifting my SO tickets for a concert and I had a couple questions regarding the stadium and how concerts work in the US since we're not from here. First question is, since I'd be buying general admission tickets, will we have access to the pit? Or only to the zones on the sides? In the website it says that the pit zone is for general admission and unreserved seats, but I'm not sure because I can't click on the pit to buy tickets. So, if we'd have to go to the zones on the edges, can anyone who's been to a concert there tell me if those are relatively good seats or if I'm throwing my money away? Thank you in advance.

Correct_Surround_351 t1_j9oetor wrote

The general admission tickets, commonly referred to as “lawn” tickets only give access to the grey lawn area at the back on the map. “Pit” tickets are much more expensive and usually hard to find unless you pay crazy prices from resellers. The pit is also general admission, as there are no seats, but they are very different than lawn tickets.

Descolorio OP t1_j9oiwlu wrote

Okay, I figured it'd be something like that. Do you know anything about how good the lawn seats are? Thank you!

fakecrimesleep t1_j9ol91w wrote

If you’re traveling from far I would strongly advise against the lawn, especially in the summer months when there are random rainstorms. The view will suck, you can be stuck in the mud/dirt, and they don’t allow umbrellas. Get seats so you have some cover and don’t have to worry about finding a spot.

I would recommend trying to be somewhat centered and not to off to the sides for the best sound. View is very much get what you pay for, it will be a lot of money to be closer to the stage.

Descolorio OP t1_j9olgnx wrote

I get that, but the ticket price doubles from lawn to covered seats, plus I need some kind of code to even see the price from the intermediate seats. Still something to look into. Thank you!

Correct_Surround_351 t1_j9omgll wrote

I used to only buy lawn seats when I was younger, but some years ago they shrunk the lawn area to just the very back, so I don’t think it’s as good of an experience now. Depending on the show you are going to, buying seats might not be too expensive and is probably the best option.

Make sure you plan enough time to get to the concert, traffic can be really bad. I would also recommend “blue lot” parking. You have to pay extra but you will get right out after the show and it’s worth it in my opinion. It’s across the street from the venue.

There is also a Marriott property within walking distance.

Oh damn then OP disregard my comment about the lawn it’s been along time since I’ve been there it was before whatever changes this person is talking about

supercrooky t1_j9om3ke wrote

Lawn seats are not great. You are quite a ways back, and while to roof supports don't block too much view, you do need to jockey for a good spot to minimize that. Also, if you care about bands that may go on before the sun goes down, the stage is covered and darker than the lawn and outer row of sets so it can be a little harder to see. For rowdier shows, the lawn is where the rowdiness is concentrated, so consider that if that matters to you. If you really, really want to see the show and they are all you can afford they are fine, but sections 1-8 (under the roof) are going to be a much better experience.

2

IntelligentMeal40 t1_j9q56sz wrote

I had lawn tickets where I was standing right underneath that overhanging cover which was great because it rained while I was there.

IAmRyan2049 t1_j9olrrp wrote

Are you looking at other venues? Might be easier because this is a bit of a bizarre venue in my experience. Good sound and all good sight lines, just only car accessible and a car mess afterward. Also outside (and uncovered for a lot of seats). The lawn is a million miles away.

3

ozzgift t1_j9oehc7 wrote

No GA tickets will be for the side sections only. And PIT tickets would be listed as such. They are general admission with no seats( they are usually sold at a premium price and or part of some kind of " VIP " package as the PIT sections is right in front of the stage.

Anything outside the pavilion is pretty bad at Mansfield. What show are you trying to go to?

3

natwashboard t1_j9p5vuu wrote

general concessions are pretty terrible. If not unprepared for a big crowd, they have limited choices due to inventory issues. Some of the food vendors heading up to the seats aren't bad when they are available. Better to get in line early b/c security is incredibly slow. Blow kisses to the psychotically dressed Norton police tactical invasion team as you stand there.

1diligentmfer t1_j9ok1in wrote

Anything outside of the second band of seats, including the lawn, and GA seats, are uncovered, and open to the weather.....rain will not cancel a show, so you are taking a chance buying those. Plus the view sucks, you end up spending time watching the big screens, because the stage is so far away.

Stick to the covered seating in the first 2 sections, or the pit. My best times there were in the pit, and they are not necessarily crazy priced compared to the seating, for rock or metal bands

Descolorio OP t1_j9ok8rz wrote

I see, I'll have to look into that because I'm already spending a lot of money on the plane ticket. Thank you!

thespelvin t1_j9om1n3 wrote

If you're flying in just for the concert, be aware that Mansfield is in the suburbs, and the venue is not easy to get to from Boston (or Providence) by public transit. You'll probably need to rent a car.

The101stEAGLE t1_j9okg2v wrote

Also note the Xfinity Center is an outdoor venue with some covered seats. If you are worried about a show and rain sit in sections 1-8 as these are the covered sections. I also find it easier to see the stage in these sections than the back seats ( if memory serves I've had parts of the stage obstructed by support beams while sitting in the uncovered seats.)

1

Boston_Stonks t1_j9q53kg wrote

Buy GA/ lawn seats, then use your ticketing app after you get in there to reserve seats in the uncovered area(you're never asked for your ticket there), reservations last like 30 minutes, so reserve it a second time (almost guarantees they won't get purchased). You now have uncovered seats for the price of lawn. Fuck ticket resellers.
