More color on the story

>Boston 25 News has obtained Novaes’ death certificate, which reveals the Medical Examiner’s finding that Novaes’ death was accidental, caused by positional asphyxia.
>
>Under the heading describing how the injured occurred, the medical examiner wrote, “Fell into recycling bin and became wedged.”
>
>The death certificate finds “chronic ethanolism” (alcoholism) as a significant condition which contributed to Novaes’ death, but not an underlying cause.
>
>As part of the investigation, a police officer, roughly the same height and weight as Novaes, fell into the bin, while reaching into it, and then had difficulty getting himself self out of the container, according the source.

I get that I read that. But how does one fall into a recycling bin,the wieght of the fall most likely cause the bin to be knocked over opening the top hatch leaving oxygene to enter the bin.Not the same as a drunk person falling into a bath tub and drowning and garbage/recycling can would fall if a person fell in or jumped in leaving the can open.

It's kind of like the picture on the side of the Home Depot buckets with the baby going ass over teakettle into a bucket. If there's enough mass in there already it's going to be a bad situation.

This is an unfortunate situation for sure.

Love the keyboard detectives work here. It's all a big conspiracy!

Also if someone was looking through a receptacle for lost papers then the top would be off and could not close if you fell in make asphyxia difficult.

I wouldn’t venture a guess myself about the falling inside part, but positional asphyxia wouldn’t require the lid to be on. The “positional” part of that term refers to suffocating because something is constricting your breathing. Maybe her chest or diaphragm was compressed, or her neck in some way, and she wasn’t able to free herself. That can result in death even if fresh air is flowing.

There was mention in the Globe about cops being called to her home multiple times, including suicide threats.

My statement still stands. There are plenty of real murders. No need to create one when experts better at this than you have determined, based on an autopsy report you don’t have access to, on site evaluations you don’t have access to, that there was no murder. She was drunk, found in a place were other people have been accidentally killed before (recycling compactors have killed plenty of people, there’s a reason wait staff & and retail workers are told to NEVER climb in), and the cause of death is a common issue, especially for drunk people crammed into tight spaces. All of this makes sense.

If you think it’s sloppy work, prove it. Cite evidence. Don’t stir up bullshit because YOU think it’s exciting, or you know better, based on completely unsubstantiated imagined claims. Think about how the family would feel. This is shitty behavior on your part.

Good bye

Clickbait title is clickbait title.

If you are going to report news, you don't put your opinion as the title.

I think it’s reasonable to be skeptical of somewhat suspicious deaths, but I do think this one makes sense logically. These types of accidents do happen, and people don’t asphyxiate due to lack of oxygen in the container, but due to lack of oxygen intake ability (bent windpipe, compressed diaphragm, etc). This can especially happen if the person goes unconscious from lack of oxygen or initial impact of falling. There was a case awhile ago that I remember where someone in a school parking lot was trying to put a seat down or up in their car, crawled over the seat and ended up like bent in a way they couldn’t correct, and ended up getting stuck underneath and died due to asphyxia. I’ll link it if I can find it
