Vehicle registration question

My parents own and insure a car out of state that I drive. Do I have to transfer and register the vehicle in my name if I were to move to Mass, or can I legally drive it if it’s properly registered and insured in another state and not under my name?

In MA, if the car here longer than 30 days, it has to be registered in MA.

If you have a permanent residence I'd register here but if you are a college student going to school out of state I'd wouldn't worry about.Especially if you retain an out of state drivers license and will move back home once done with college.

Edit: since the car isn’t yours, I would recommend calling the RMV closest to you and ask them your question. They’re surprisingly helpful from my experience. Just call first thing in the morning.

If you are living in MA and spend most of your time in MA, the car must be registered in MA. Most importantly, not doing so is actually a form of insurance fraud and could result in your insurance being dropped.

If the car is registered to them then it is fine to have an out of state plate. I did this for 5-6 years with a car of my mothers. Once/If the car is ever transferred to you it must be registered in your name. If the car needs an inspection it must be taken back to the state that it is registered in for the inspection.

It seems some people are glossing over the fact you're not actually the owner of the car.

Unless you have a Karen neighbor that reports you to cause trouble, you should be fine.
