Hello, I have been getting quotes online from different insurance companies to decrease my monthly premiums. Currently I'm insured with Liberty Mutual and today I switched to Allstate since there was a significant premium decrease for the same coverages. I chose my coverage with Allstate to start 7 days later because they were giving me a discount if I do make it start 7 days later. So I got 3 questions:

1st question - 7 days later, when my insurance starts with Allstate, should I call Liberty Mutual by myself to cancel my policy with them, or Allstate does that for me?

2nd question - Do i need to contact to RMV somehow to tell them I'm switching my car insurance company etc. or the new company I switch (Allstate) is doing it for me?

3rd question - It says my old insurance company's name on my car registration document, would it be a problem after I switch?

Thanks a lot in advance. I'm just trying to be in a safe position since I'm pretty new in Massachusetts.

You need to call your old insurance company.

You don't have to call the rmv, just update it next time u renew your registration. but if the car is under loan with a bank, you should Definitly call the bank and let them know you have switched insurance, because the old company can send them a letter saying undropped coverage and the bank will repo the car.

It won't be a problem if u get pulled over, just keep your new policy in the glove box.

I did not have to call my old insurance co. when I switched recently. In fact they (the broker I formerly used) called me to ask why I didn't get them a chance to bid lower.

The only thing I had to do was submit new proof of insurance to my lender (DCU, despite them also brokering the insurance, they didn't tell themselves about it)
