The amount of mentally disabled selfish drivers who come to complete stops in the 2nd lane when they skip the line to go to the connecting exit is astounding. Genuinely happens 10+ times when I sit in the line like a normal person. Someone almost got wrecked by a semi that couldn’t stop in time the other day. If you can’t slide in while at regular travel speed you fucking missed the exit.

I've done 95 to 3N before too, but I'm not sure if during rush hour.

But I think there are a number of highway intersections that have this. I've seen the like. It's infuriating.

Completely separate question: How do you feel about zipper merging, in general?

Zipper merging makes complete sense when its the exit merging to first lane or vice versa when its an exit with 1+ lanes. People coming to a complete stop in the 2nd lane because they think after passing a huge line that there’s magically going to be an opening and will sit there for 15+ seconds backing up the entire second lane and in turn slowing down the other lanes albeit not as much drives me insane.

Zipper merging is the best way to optimize the flow of traffic, but its MERGING. A single main road of traffic with an exit/ramp/one way that connects to brings un additional traffic that ends very quickly after the merge. These arr people who are technically zipper merging, but in an extremely irresponsible way that is a massive net negative to the flow of traffic. Normal zipper merging is a net positive.

I have no idea why people think they’re the main characters on the road and its safe/logical to come to a complete stop for no reason on the highway. Should be able to record these people with my dashcam and email their plate numbers in. Dangerous, stupid, and creates more traffic. Also, people travel in the break down lane coming up to exit 50 AB fairly often aswell. It clearly ends but they just keep going.

Lolol I know exactly what you mean. The people getting on 3N don’t even need to slow down much since the people merging onto 95S have their own lane that they can use to build speed.

Ive been in mass my whole life but lived in hamilton/wenham and just dealt with 128 mostly. I moved to billerica and commute to peabody so been dealing with this nonsense for several months now.

Without defending the idiots (epitome of stupidity) the incredibly poor design of that particular merge is primarily to blame. I mean if the dangerous stupid actions become the norm shouldn't the design account for that reaction? My limited.experience is that the right-hand merge lane is often bumper to bumper at 20 mph way up the hill long before even the poor signage indicating the merge. So, if you're not familiar with the merge you're stuck in the left lane at 60+ mph. Also, in OP's example didn't the trucker have a legal duty to drive in a manner to be able to avoid any obstacles ahead of him i.e., is it smart to drive 60+ mph in the lane next to a 20 mph lane? There's a lot of stupidity to go around that merge. I'm surprised there aren't more bad accidents there.

Ya i do consider those who don’t realize what the line is, but i feel like any experienced driver who’s using GPS and knows their exit is next and sees a line on the right hand lane it’s pretty difficult to not think the line is for the exit. I feel if u setup a camera its mostly gonna be repeat offenders. Plus it was a guy going 60 and abruptly comes to a complete stop for no reason other than to take the exit, semi’s are heavy af and dont slow down as quickly. If that guy got hit i could see the semi not being at fault only cuz its a highway

Not in any way unique to that exit.

Driving sucks. Get used to it.

Didn’t say that the exit is unique. It’s a rant post. Wtf is wrong with you? It’s more than just traffic bad, its dangerous driving behavior.
