We're finally changing the flag?!?! Good! I vote for a lobster roll on a field of white.

We need a new license plate before a flag tbh. 30+ years of the same damn plate.

I like the naval ensign. It is the pine tree flag without the religious claptrap. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Massachusetts#/media/File%3ANaval_Ensign_of_Massachusetts.svg

I like it.

  • No religion.
  • No shield or war type symbolism.
  • No authoritarianism theme or undertone.

Friendly, simple and easy to recognize. So, of course, you know that means they'll never pick it. lol

I like the pine tree design!

It reminds me too much of the original maine flag so I don’t want to copycat lol

I just looked it up and totally agree! Way too similar! I do like the idea of a secular, no war/authoritarian imagery type of design though.

I agree. I do like the original Maine flag and I have a bunch of stuff with it on there hahaha but I’d like ours to be unique for sure

I like it. Saves on future major redesigns as we can just extend the flag further and further as we grow into Megachusetts.

How about the state flag for every state is just the state’s silhouette on a white background?

PieRevolutionary5918 t1_irehfh1 wrote

Each state has its own history and I think the flag is symbolic of the states identity. That is why they’re personalized.

What's the big boxy thing on the state supposed to be? Shouldn't it just be the c shape on the right?

I like it, but it should be depicted as stuck in traffic on 93S, and flipping off someone with FL plates.

I still think simply removing the sword overhead is the best solution, but this is the best alternative I've seen so far.

Why do people want to change it? Because there is a native American on it? What's wrong with that?

−6

Ksevio t1_irfd8ju wrote

Because it's terrible - it's just the state seal slapped onto a white rectangle. It has too many small details to see clearly, no one is going to be able to draw the flag, and it's not that recognizable/memorable. Basically does all the things you can do wrong with a flag.

I think the main problem is the native American on it tho, and it's also boring af

Banea-Vaedr t1_ire0ysp wrote

The main problem is the indian being executed by a cavalryman, but also the motto "By the Sword, we seek peace". Both are in reference to King Philips War, where Western MA was genocided by the Wampanoag until they thenselves were defeated. However, both were put on the flag for the Civil War, with the implication that the Confederates would meet the same fate.

Side note: the indian on the cover is Metacom/King Phillip himself, and is historically accurate

What is the "problem" with having a native American on the flag? Doesn't Massachusetts have a large history of native people and many still existing tribes?

"Boring" is an opinion. What exactly is "boring" about the current one? Whats not "boring" about the one you submitted? What if all 50 states followed a similar approach? I think the current one is just fine the way it is. If there are some that are offended by it, well, learn to live with it. Leave the current one the way it is. This 'woke' shit is getting out of hand.

Multiple states have changed their flags or are in discussion. Mississippi’s flag is new and way better IMO. Georgia has also had like 4 flags. Why does it really matter if 50 flags change? If we add new states do you not expect the American Flag to change or at least be updated somehow?
