Friends of mine run mini splits and they will beat down to 30 degrees outside, more soecualized units I’ve read will go down to 0.

For the money I’d install a pellet stove insert and have it tied into a battery back up somewhere else in the house that your future solar will run.

Pellet boilers are a thing - my high school was heated entirely on a massive pellet boiler system.
