Over the last year, we've been dealing with avian flu - it's highly infectious and chickens drop from it within 24 hours so it's hard to catch before it's spread through the flock. With bird migration happening again, it's spreading badly in some areas, like it did in coastal MA during the spring
Its led to an egg shortage, as well as chicken and turkey so they've all gone up

This is the answer. A friend predicted this months ago as millions of birds had to be quelled due to avian flu.
