My husband and I are in need of our first night away since our two kids were born. We live in Westport, MA, and I’m looking for a romantic hotel or inn within a two hour drive. Bonus attributes- fire pit, pretty view, and jacuzzi. We plan to go in December. Any ideas? We have never “vacationed” so close to home, so I’m not sure where to look. Thanks!!

Disclaimer that it’s 2h 24m from Westport and pricy but… you can’t beat the cliff house in Cape Neddick Maine for its incredible view of the Maine ocean cliffs (from main lobby, from rooms), it’s amazing hot tub (overlooking said view too!), and fire pit (again… with a view!). I personally love their indoor fire place too.

Again… a bit further and pricy but worth a look! :)

If you’re looking to splurge look at the Spa Suites at Chatham Bars Inn.

The cape may offer some good deals off season, Like way out in P town area. Also the white mountains or Vermont you can’t go wrong. Woodstock inn in Vermont is nice

Blue Green Ascending in Dennis, ask to be upgraded to the presidential, not as pricey as it sounds. Has all of the above and is right on the ocean. Eat at Ocean House that is nearly next door.

I live in the area and we had a great time going into the white mountains area in NH. It's roughly 3ish hours away so a little further, but it's a wonderful place.

One option that I recently explored was a two night stay at Hampton Inn & Suites in W. Yarmouth on the Cape. We booked a room with a whirlpool tub and thoroughly enjoyed the place. Our room was not especially fancy, but it was very clean, hotel staff was lovely, and a huge breakfast was included. Lots to do nearby. There or something similar might work for you. Not too far from home either.

How about one of the islands (Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket)?

The Annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll is December 2-4 which is always fun although the hotel prices will of course be higher than if you go before or after. Nantucket does tend to close down a lot of stuff right after stroll however. Not sure what the Vineyard is like during December.

The Berkshires are a nice change of scenery from coastal southeastern MA, maybe on the further end of your range. Newburyport/Plum Island is also a nice spot for a cozy long weekend.

My wife and I just stayed at Bouchards Inn in Newport, RI. It was alittle chilly but the Cliff walk and mansions were beautiful and plenty of really nice restaurants, obviously it’s Newport. Also we love Westport almost got married at bittersweet before Covid. We still love going to Buzzards Bay Brewery!

So your about as south shore as you can be why don’t you try the north shore. Rockport is a “coastal village” and has a fair amount of small inns and it’s off season by now. I don’t have a particular recommendation but if you google I don’t even think there are any chains or anything it’s all mom and pop

Vineyard, Nantucket or Provincetown are all wonderful off-season.

My husband and I went to Wequasset last year in the winter …..we had a jacuzzi and fireplace right outside our room in a private space. We also love CBI as well…
