Yea. I've lived in bad neighnborhoods bro for a good portion of my life. I've seen people steal dodge caravans and Nissan versas.

Great.

I grew up in a city with one of the highest car theft rates in the country, and always top 5 murder per Capita.

And you're talking about moving to Boston, one of the safest richest cities in the world.

Get a grip dude

Do you want a trophy for that? I asked because I don't live there, know absolutely no one from there. If we have similar experiences living in shitty places why not just say "Nah bro, Boston is super nice in general. Nothing to worry about" but hey you keep doing you man.

khanyoufeelthelove t1_ivlgfst wrote

it's fine. people might say it's dangerous because at one point it really was, or because non whites or people making under 40k live there, and they just can't handle seeing that.

I can live in a poor place. That is fine. Just don't want to be getting shot at or feeling like sleeping at home is unsafe.

Eh. It's not one of the safest areas of Boston, but bad areas in Boston are nothing like bad areas in some other cities.

Yes, Hyde Park is safe. There are working class blocks in Hyde Park, just like any section of any urban city, but nobody is going to pull you out of your mustang and jack your car. Violent crime is well below the state average, but just like any city there can be car break-ins or petty crime. There are some affluent blocks and homes in the area go for ~$700,000. 20+ years ago these neighborhoods were rougher than they are today, and some people are intimidated living around working class people or in diverse communities. Nice golf course, supermarket, good walkability, some good restaurants in the center there.

The main problem you'll have with a car like that is that the roads are dogshit.

Had a commercial building in Hyde park. There was a shooting. But it was the security guard shooting himself.

All in all. It’s OK. Not the safest area. But odds are you want get shot. Mustang should be most concerned of potholes and Boston drivers.

I use to work in Hyde park. It’s weird. Certain neighborhoods are good but then certain neighborhoods are awful. Avoid Hyde park Ave and river street.

The Readville section of Hyde Park is really nice!

There’s a new brewery in Hyde Park if that answers your question.

It’s just a mustang. Plenty of European luxury cars. You will be fine.

It depends on who you ask, is what I’d say.

foreducatio OP t1_ivlfa7i wrote

What would you say? If I can go to work and come home and be safe. Then I am fine.

4

aheksow t1_ivlfpv1 wrote

I think you’ll be able to do that. I have friends who grew up in JP back when it was very unsafe, they saw some things they shouldn’t have but thankfully they’re okay. My point is that when I ask my friend about other places in Boston she always says “oh anywhere is better than it used to be, with a few exceptions” and she’s never said Hyde park as a place that is excluded 😂

foreducatio OP t1_ivliqq0 wrote

Ok cool. I'd rather not pay crazy money for somewhere closer to the city and I do prefer the suburbs even if it is a working class suburb. I just need to not die. Lol

2

aheksow t1_ivljj2h wrote

Yes you will be totally fine. Most cities there have gotten better not worse, I am also a Suburb person. Hyde park is a good mix, whereas other places are all out city like.

gregkel22 t1_ivlp0rt wrote

Not the safest. Def worse.

People do tend to target either super common, run of the mill cars or high end cars so yours will probably be fair game as much as any other but it'd not get the attention that a fancy car would.

I'd recommend driving through Hyde Park at 10:00 on a Friday morning and then at 10:00 on a Friday night and see for yourself if you think it'd be a good fit for you.

Maybe Google recent news stories and see if the top hits (community activities, police activity, new restaurants, etc.) would be a good fit for you.
