OP, people like you are the reason this country is sliding so much. You're really falling for this "war on christmas" shit? Honestly? The first paragraph in this article says they have a ton of christmas decorations. There are trees in the town hall, which id the next building over.

How sheltered are you that this sends you into hysteria over how "we won't have holidays in ten years"?

You and everyone else in this thread agreeing with you are deeply sad human beings.

Republicans these days are so easily manipulated. It's sad. Ted Cruz can literally run a campaign on anti cancel culture and go on a cancel culture tour with Marjory Taylor Green and win this guy's vote. But they never realize that as much as they pander to the culture wars it's not a politicians job to fight the culture wars and what could they do about it? But the war in Christmas wages on in the hearts and minds of the media illiterate.

Yeah? Did you read the response from the Human Rights Commission member from Dedham? She was also "thanked" for her services when she promptly resigned after the post went public. The post is so vile and hateful towards Christians. Her name is Diane Loud. And no one in the media cared.

It leaves the door wide open for 1 person to walk in anywhere and say I’m uncomfortable with X and buh bye. Same person sees they got the library to do it. This year they walk into the town hall and say this is making me uncomfortable then they walk into that little public area and say this makes me uncomfortable then they walk into wherever and say this makes me uncomfortable because they have a lot of time on their hands. see where this is going.

Including other cultures & religions is somehow an attack on yours? I can only imagine how much you'd complain if you weren't a white Christian male. You're literally playing the game of life on Easy Mode and you still manage to complain... It's pathetic.

Gosh, you'd probably kill yourself if you actually had to play on Hard Mode like a Muslim person, a Jewish person, a black person, an Asian person, etc.

Never said that at all. But please explain where you got that from. I’m for including everything and not picking and choosing what may or may not be celebrated. literally the last paragraph of my original post.

I love that I've heard this drivel my entire life, yet Christmas has become more and more commercialized and is literally all over everything from October to December. And let's not forget about "Christmas in July!" Get over yourselves, seriously.

The only mention of someone being uncomfortable was a 2nd hand comment from social media by the branch manager, who declined to be interviewed. Fuck this false outrage.

Edit: grammar

Because that's fucked up.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas lol I think if classrooms or libraries are setting up Christmas decorations they should also add a menorah and some dreidels and a kinara.

It’s not hard to be inclusive people just get big mad for some reason if, specifically Christianity/Christmas, isn’t the only winter holiday decoration.

10

jabbanobada t1_izjng64 wrote

Consider that the number of Christmas decorations put out by the town of Dedham, which puts up Christmas decorations, is not important. Perhaps if your news sources focus on this stuff, they are not very good.

10

bostonmacosx OP t1_izjnzy9 wrote

It’s not inherently about the decoration, but most people can’t see past that it’s the ability of one or two people to walk in and say I have a problem with that and then it gets shut down

−9

3ternal_Scout t1_izjsplz wrote

You keep asserting it was a purely reactive decision when for all you know it could be the result of deliberate inclusive planning to not feature one holiday’s symbol prominently over others.

10

jabbanobada t1_izkbk49 wrote

There's no reason to believe that's what happened. Real people in this library are being harassed over an inconsequential decision because people with poor information sources think this is important. The purpose of this story is to create outrage where none naturally exists, because it is better for the publishers of this nonsense then discussing things of greater importance.

Holidays are something you as an individual and your family celebrate. You should not need a town or city government to validate your reason for celebrating said holiday. I suspect, however, that you honestly don’t celebrate Christmas for the true reason but that you just like the pretty decorations, lights, and getting presents. Those are not a reason to have a holiday. Do you even know the reason behind any of those traditions? I mean honestly we can put up lights whenever and wherever just for the hell of it. Do you really need a holiday to be your reason?

Christians bitch about religious holidays, which is funny because their God wasn't strong enough to have any of His own so they stole them from other cultures as they subjugated them.

Diane Loud refers to God as a "magic sky daddy."

Diane Loud says to the Christmas tree supporters: "fuck you, you pieces of trash. I hate each and every one of you and I do wish great suffering on you."

Sadly, today it is a game for many to complain about anything , just to do it, Not that it bothers them truthfully, but just to see if their complaint gets something changed or removed, and cause others to get upset .

It is a game to these types. And sadly we let them get their way.

If I had That towns library card, I'd bring in a tree and set it up. just because. A donation if you will.

I still for the life of me , Can't understand how some connect santa and a tree with a religion , ANY religion. Now if they set up a manger. Then they could connect it to one.

Some people need to find a hobby and get a life.

that said....

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY..

You can't understand how Santa (aka St. Nicholas) and a (Christmas) tree are connected to a religion?

7

WhiplashMotorbreath t1_izjhx0l wrote

TODAY Santa and christmas in the public domain is all about buying crap and gifts.

The public at large does not think santa, and a pine tree with lights as the birth of Jesus. But you do you. and down vote this post of logic and reason . I'm sure you will.

Bless your little offended heart.

−8

tjrad815 t1_izka8iv wrote

Christmas is a Christian holiday. The public at large who are not Christian do not celebrate Christmas regardless of how commercialized you believe it has become.

3

human8060 t1_izlq0rx wrote

That's not the slightest bit true. Millions of non-Christians celebrate it. It's barely a religious holiday anymore. It was all stolen from other religions anyway. Christmas is a fake holiday. The Santa we know today was created by Coca-Cola. Jesus was not born in December. People celebrate it as a reason to get together, eat food, and give gifts.

−1

tjrad815 t1_izlu9e8 wrote

If it's such a secular holiday, why are Christians so upset about the war on Christmas?

1

human8060 t1_izlvfn3 wrote

There is no war on Christmas. It's people with a victim complex acting like they're being persecuted because their town put up a menorah or Starbucks cups aren't red enough. People who are so offended by "Happy Holidays", like it somehow doesn't include Christmas. Christmas is the most commercialized holiday there is. Atheist put up xmas trees and give gifts. Sure, there are plenty of people who celebrate it as the birth of Jesus, even though he was born in summer. There are also millions who celebrate it just to watch movies, give and get gifts, eat food, and see friends and family.

WhiplashMotorbreath t1_iznp3zl wrote

Then maybe they should stop, having a tree, and giving gifts, and having the day off. Funny those SO OFFENDED by the holiday, have no issue with having the day off, receiving gifts. And giving their kids gifts.

A tree with lights does not = Christian, Now a manger, yup.

People need to get a hobby other than being OFFENDED by everything.

As for your post about my opinion on how commercialized it is.

Nothing done today has any base of religion. Santa has as much to do with a religion as the tooth fairy . He became a saint because of his actions after the fact. The tree isn't a cross.

For the amount of folks so offended by this holiday, they seem to give gifts to others on it. So the fake outrage is just that FAKE. Or they tell their kids, no christmas for you, no gifts, no nothing.

A Christmas tree is a Christian symbol. Your strawman arguments and imagined scenarios aren't changing that fact.

2

WhiplashMotorbreath t1_izwwyka wrote

Sure it is, fine me a pine tree in Rome 2000 years ago.

Never mind the birth of Jesus isn't the 25th of dec.

But facts don't matter to those looking to be offended, only "feelings"

Only ones with a Strawman are those so ignorant to not know When the birth of Jesus truly is.

But YOU DO YOU.

tjrad815 t1_izxc1vh wrote

The birth of Jesus wasn't 2000 years ago if this is the game you want to play.

Traditions evolve, and Christmas trees are an established part of the way Christmas is celebrated today.

1

WhiplashMotorbreath t1_j05yu4f wrote

Yes they evolve, and Christmas is a spending holiday of gift giving, and making kids happy. Not a religion based one to the general public at large. It evolved into this 70 odd years ago.

Do you need a safe space, when you see a pine tree with lights on it?

Does a cross on the side of the highway where someone lost their life and friends and family put flowers and photo's send you into a rage?

What I see and think when I read about folks getting offended over this, or anything else that doesn't really matter, is they have no life, and are unhappy, and need to be offended to feel like they are Alive. As they hate everything. And this state is chock full of them.

tjrad815 t1_j07awkt wrote

Christmas remains a Christian holiday. It's weird that you keep pretending that it isn't. I've never mentioned being offended in this thread. I've merely pointed out that you are weirdly trying to ignore a basic fact. Me pointing out your hypocracy seems to have triggered you. Maybe you should go back to Truth Social where people will play along with your make-believe scenarios.

My buddy works at a private concern in MA. They have a menorah and Kwanzaa setup and had a big Diwali decoration going as well a few weeks back (which is awesome.) Zero signs of Christmas.

It's a private company so they are well within their rights to choose to acknowledge some holidays and not others, but folks there are doing some head scratching on why they have stuff up for the edge cases and not the one the most people celebrate.
