Car insurance help

I read through the posts on here about car insurance but couldn't find what I need. I'm looking for a car insurance company in Massachusetts that will give me a policy while I'm on a permit. I should have a license in a few months but i can't practice driving without a car. And none of the companies I've looked at will sell insurance to someone that doesn't have a license. Also I'm just loving the thought of spending 4-5k a year on car insurance. Yay Massachusetts

The car owner with a license buys insurance.

You ask them a favor of using their car to learn to practice driving now that you have your learner’s permit.

They go with you.

Do you have a family member who can add your car to their insurance plan?

Unfortunately the $4-5k(it shouldnt be quite that high) is not isolated to MA. All states except NH require insurance and new drivers are viewed as high risk and are charged accordingly

Call an independent insurance agency and they may be able to help. Some of the bigger ones like Eastern Insurance, Kaplansky, Hub International and Cross Insurance work with multiple insurance companies and may have a company that can get you a policy. This is honestly your best bet rather than the national companies you see commercials for.

As far as learning to drive, you could go to a driving school who will pick you up at your address and show you how to drive well enough to pass your test.

That is the best way to go as insurance companies give discounts (usually) for those who complete the classes. They know what is going to be on the test, what you need to work on.

I'm taking classes but only once a month. I was driving my grandmother's car everywhere with a supervisor bit she got a new car and gave me the old one. I don't want to drive her new expensive car so I have to get the old one on the road if I want to keep practicing.

So if you own the car and don’t have an actual license, any company will add you as the insured. However, you will not be listed on the policy.

Meaning, you won’t be able to drive the car until you get your license. You cannot be added to a policy in MA with just your permit.

You’ll need to list someone with a license on your policy. That person should be in your car when you are driving it around.
