I'm aware of The Peabody Essex Museum, of course.

But what covers the witch trials, historically, without leaning on pointy hats and broomsticks?

What else would you recommend?

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions. A lot of stuff was closed for the season, but we checked out the stores on the walking street, went to a Cub restaurant, and spent some time at PEM..

There is a Walgreens on the Peabody border away from downtown. Check out the memorial that exists behind it (I mean this unironically). Food-wise, Mercy Tavern is a must. If you just want takeaway, you gotta check out Chez Casa, both relatively walkable from downtown, just a bit further out.

Black Cat Tours are run by history nerds who do a good job of getting the facts right while still being very fun. I highly recommend them.

The ghost tour was very informative as well. I think I learned the most on that walking tour. It goes to various sites (cemetary, buildings) explaining the historical significance of events that happened there or people connected to the site. It's mildly about "ghosts", mostly about history.

The Salem Witch Museum, at least the main exhibit, is about the witch trials specifically.

Far From the Tree is a cider shop I always stopped into while in Salem.

You could always go free diving in Salem harbor for scallops! Makes for a fun date if you can hold your breath, otherwise...

Not really worth a trip outside of October unless it’s for a few hours long trip ( lunch and walking around) other then that meh.

Actually I think Salem is best in Summer, it’s beautiful and right on the water! October in Salem is near pointless unless you want to stand in line and see hundreds and hundreds of people in modern witch hats.

I would go in the summer on dates (from Quincy) every now and then. There’s like 4 worthwhile restaurants. Lines do suck in October it all depends what time of the month you go.

Only 4? Either you haven't been to many of the eateries here or you're an extremely picky eater.

Why only come during Haunted Happenings when we have Christmas in Salem, the Food Truck Festival, Salem So Sweet, etc. etc.?
