I mean western mass really starts at Newton for many of us Bostonians so the statement seems more accurate 😂

Once you go further West, yes, it does become more remote. The same is true if you go North and North, West. There are a few exceptions, such as Greenfield and Pittsfield, to name a few. But once you exit past Amherst or Westfield, depending on which way you're going (further north or further west), it's mostly country towns and woods.
