From my recollection, rain doesn't have a smell.

Ummmm I live in Florida and you can smell it from the humidity down here
Chemical_Waffles t1_jacak2x wrote
Humidity is still water. Plants like water. They then release the smell, regardless of weather it is pouring, sprinkling, or just humid.

Google Petrichor
Chemical_Waffles t1_jadcg1r wrote
How bout you look at the meaning of petrichor again. I quote "petrichor coming from the grass". Petrichor is produced by plants as a reaction to rain. Also, this argument was already settled. Read our convo and you will see everyone is right. Have a good day.

Well, technically your smelling the effects rain hase on nature. You aren't smelling the rain, but the trees and plants reaction.

Rain isn't just water, there is a small amount of dirt and other stuff in there so yes you can actually smell rain, what you are talking about is petrichor, an oil produced by many plants after rainfall which people also commonly associate with "the smell of rain"

So, were both right? Happy ending.
