Humidity is still water. Plants like water. They then release the smell, regardless of weather it is pouring, sprinkling, or just humid.

How bout you look at the meaning of petrichor again. I quote "petrichor coming from the grass". Petrichor is produced by plants as a reaction to rain. Also, this argument was already settled. Read our convo and you will see everyone is right. Have a good day.

Well, technically your smelling the effects rain hase on nature. You aren't smelling the rain, but the trees and plants reaction.

Rain isn't just water, there is a small amount of dirt and other stuff in there so yes you can actually smell rain, what you are talking about is petrichor, an oil produced by many plants after rainfall which people also commonly associate with "the smell of rain"

I like the smell of an incoming storm. I have many fond memories of my dad and I watching storms from our front porch. Rain is closest to it, so rain, I guess.

The smell of rain has a name, though not explicitly for the rain itself, but the musty soil and permeating moss and undergrowth. It's called petrichor. And yes it is one of my favorites.

Well I'll be. TIL geosmin is one of the molecules contributing to what we call petrichor. I didn't see mention of the phenomenon in the ozone article and I can't say I could reliably identify the scent, though I'll keep this in mind during the next thunderstorm.

I'm going to spit the facts out of my mouth: Gasoline feels incredible, but if you smell more than enough it starts feeling kinda toxic, which makes it a doubled-edged sword. Rain isn't as intense as gasoline but it never stops being nice. That's why rain is the best.

As someone who feels nauseous when I smell gasoline, I just can’t wrap my head around how some people think it smells good? Whenever I’m in the car with someone and they stop to refuel I can’t wait for it to be over so we can leave the petrol station because the fumes make me feel so sick lol
