Put a damp paper towel (squeeze the water out) over whatever you are heating up.
Microwaves heat up water molecules so by doing this the “micro waves” hit the towel first and you get a better and uniform heat. So your plate won’t be as hot.

Yeah, I knew there was a scientific reason for this. I love science, so I figured it had something to do with the heat and the molecules. I just figured it’d make a funny meme. Thanks for the tip! :)

Also putting a little clearing in the middle of your plate before you start heating it helps start the whole “outside-in” heating process.

Use plates with less metal/polar molecule impurities.

My ceramic plates/bowls get soo hot

I imagine because the plate is thinner than the food so it takes less to heat it up because the heat has less atoms to travel through

Not exactly how microwaves work.
Microwaves excite molecules, especially things that are the same size as the wavelength (1mm-1m depending on the frequency), i would guess that the plate being bigger than the food and full of impurities, it's molecules absorb more waves/energy.
Or it's just that that person's microwave has a lot of standing waves at the very bottom of the pedestal.
A fun thing to look into: Electrobooms microwave standing wave video and the one where they create plasma in grapes (grapes that are the same diameter as the wavelength)

Just leave a hole in the centre, and it heats the food evenly, Honestly, do people still not know how to use a microwave properly
Comdervids t1_j9nfulf wrote
No no, it heats the food too. Just the very top, which is bubbling hot, so you’re deceived into believing the whole thing is hot. Once you mix it up you realize it’s freezing cold, and you question your entire life up to that point.

i swear ceramic plates become hotter than the sun in the time it takes soup to heat
