Basically, but I can't stand the fact that my friend that lives 100 meters from me has 7-14 times faster download speed than me

This reminds me of situation that was a few years ago. Despite living in a really large city I was using radio internet. If I wanted to download any film, that meant few hours (mostly around 6-8) of waiting.
