I dont understand why people want billionaires with there own money to solve world problems when goverments with even more money are not solving them?
leavesomenamesforme t1_iu9qj37 wrote
worse is goverment is TRYING to solve a problem.

LOL yeah right

When the goverment tried to help college students they blew up, healthcare, they blew up, there are other examples of this.
I am not saying goverment shoudlnt help its citizens but as I have implied the "TRYING" in my sentence, it should not only try but succed

Because our government is completely ineffective and there's no changing that. A billionaire can do whatever the fuck it wants. Not even laws can stop them.

if he tried to feed the poor with that much money, he couldnt sustain it for very long, it wouldnt do much.

Others would assert that wealthy people do not assist the poor if wealthy individuals do not disclose how they have aided the poor. But when wealthy individuals talk about helping the needy, some people will accuse them of doing so as a Publicity act.
MalesAreBiological t1_iu8rouo wrote
People accusing you of something so light isn't ever a reason. The better reason is people like Bill Gates help them, then people come along and have to throw in unwarranted conspiracy theories which are taken out of context or just made up, that's the world we live in
The_Pomegranate_King t1_iu9mwa5 wrote
Why do people think the rich population have to be like indentured servants to the poor. And then go complain on Reddit when they arent
whiteboyhung101 t1_iub05hl wrote
Because there are much more useful thing you can spend that money on rather than buying twitter and for what? Some publicity? When you have a abundant amount of money shouldn’t you try to help the people that aren’t as well of? I guess it’s more of characteristic that something rich people should be obliged to.
SlugPacifier t1_iublegj wrote
Additionally, Elon Musk does not have 200 billion dollars or whatever. He has 200 bil worth of assets. And, in order to spend a sizable amount of money, he would have to sell a crap ton of stocks and lose authority/voting power in the buisnesses that HE created. That’s like your arm being worth a billion dollars and having to chop it off to claim it.
hastur2042 t1_iube456 wrote
From what I’ve seen he literally got forced into buying twitter with previous contracts etc. and if you look at what Elon is actually doing he is trying to improve humanity beyond this planet. Just because he has money doesn’t mean he has to solve world problems.
SlugPacifier t1_iubl4cy wrote
See, everyone donating a bit of their income to charities would do just as much good as a super rich person donating a sizable portion of their wealth. But, people always think someone else should donate and nothing gets done. Change starts with you.

bmcle071 t1_iu8vfik wrote
When you control hundreds of billions of dollars it corrupts you. We cannot tryst a handful of extraordinary wealthy people to do whats best for society. Nobody is benevolent and everybody has their own motives.
If you make middle class incomes and are comfortable your corruption doesnt matter. When you are king of space, twitter, all the cars, AI, brain implants, you have too much power.
Southern_Bandicoot74 t1_iu8ww5t wrote
Maybe, but property rights are more important than your thoughts on corruption. After all, he legally earned his money.

Then why the hell do they never pay anything like property taxes/taxes in general, Amazon literally has made billions in profit in America but payed 0 dollars in taxes this year, same as Netflix and a majority of billionaires.
Paid-Not-Payed-Bot t1_iu9v31t wrote
> America but paid 0 dollars
FTFY.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
-
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
-
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
Beep, boop, I'm a bot
Southern_Bandicoot74 t1_iu9xvlw wrote
Because they don’t get salary, their wealth grows because cost of their property grows. They pay taxes whenever they sell something.
triggered_rabbit t1_iu9ynva wrote
So Amazon one of the biggest companies in the world doesn't get to pay taxes? And the others?
So basically they could be paying taxes that help Infrastructure, schooling and SS/society in general but just don't?
Man America really is the worst 1st world country to live in
And people in America wonder why the entire world thinks America is just shit
Maleficent_Plastic_1 t1_iua18zh wrote

No, you really can’t. With that money you buy food a finite resource. We would have to keep a steady supply to get it to the places like in Africa where agriculture is difficult. Instead, a wiser way to stop it is to find ways to grow plants in those areas so they can grow their food and not relay on a supply funded by others. After a while the food the money bought would run out, then what?
