Was HP Lovecraft that good? I saw a video essay about him and it didn’t make him come across the best but idk if that was an accurate representation

He created a genre of horror (i think its cosmic horror) Basically monsters who are beyond the human mind, and there is no way to beat them. If you like the SCP monsters, or you liked some movies like bird box, and most of stephen king novels/films, then you will probably love HP lovecraft

Haven’t read any of his books but they sound really interesting and it seems like he was one of the most influential horror writers ever. The only bad thing I’ve heard about him is how racist he was, though that’s not surprising considering when he lived.

he was so racist, racists called him racist.

he was also quite anti-Semitic, but when he married a Jewish woman, he changed his view on that particular area.

how racist?

an old guy died because he saw people of colour in one of the books.

He married a Jew and believed she was the only good Jew in the world simply because he knew her. I'm sure he could overcome those pre-concepts if he got to know more POC and of different religions. The stories about him sounds like the kind of guy who would benefit from therapy nowadays.
