In Arabic and Hebrew the writing goes from right to left so right handed people who write in Arabic or Hebrew have that smudge as well

Yeah it's terrible. My handwriting (right) evolved over time and now when writing my hand is ABOVE the text I write.

I taught myself to write left handed (it's not neat, but legible) and all you need to do is extend your pencil grip a bit.

most desks at school also had the arm rest on the right side, so it was also more uncomfortable to write as a lefty.
