They do not use those capabilities the vast majority of the time.
I truly believe the truck trend is the single worst thing that has happened in the last twenty years, strictly from a environmental stand point.
I also believe there is no reason for people to spend 450-650 a month on a truck they don't need.
Edit: this is a direct quote from a study done by strategic vision.
"According to Edwards’ data, 75 percent of truck owners use their truck for towing one time a year or less (meaning, never). Nearly 70 percent of truck owners go off-road one time a year or less. And a full 35 percent of truck owners use their truck for hauling"

People buy trucks to use them knowingly that they will be doing some sort of hauling or off-roading… You will never know when you need a truck until your car can’t fit a dresser or tow a trailer lol.

Yes and the vast majority of people don't ever use them for those purposes. 75 percent of truck owners only use their truck for towing/hauling something other than grocery's 1 time or less a year.

Where did you find that information?

From the strategic vision study

I'm curious where they derived that information. I wouldn't be surprised if people in large cities rarely haul much, but where I live that's got to be about opposite. I'm on the road with trucks pulling horse trailers every day, beds loaded with welders and equipment. 75% of the trucks I see are regularly used for their intended purposes.

It's definitely different in more rural environments. I live in Vegas and most vehicles in the roads are massive trucks that are just pleasure vehicles.

I have a truck for those things. I also have a small, fuel efficient car for the other 95% of my driving. My truck is 20 years old and has 85k miles. It doesn't make sense to use a truck as a daily unless you haul/tow daily. The gas savings alone has more than paid for my car, not to mention repairs and maintenance costs on a truck are much higher.
