I wish when you find graves like this the spirit of the dead person can come out and have a brief chat with you about their life and answer questions. Maybe in the future with AI and sufficient recorded data about a person’s life this will be possible.

Family gravesites were the norm in rural areas in the 19th century. Many are lost to time.

I think it says 'Joseph Meadowlark'. It would be nice if someone from a local historical conservation society would clean it. It's important not to use bleach or harsh chemicals/tools. I've seen videos of volunteers who clean headstones.
