Looks like nails for a nail gun. That's why they are stuck together. As for why they are stuck in the sauce, still a mystery.

Not rubber bands, it's the plastic stuff that holds them together in the box. They literally just separated 2 and stuck them in.

This is a primitive battery. The acidity of the ranch dressing reacts with the galvanized steel nails creating an electrical current that travels between the nails. The dried goo pictured here is actually ectoplasm.

Those are not rubber bands but are the plastic strips that hold the gun nail racks together. They not only space the nails out evenly but also hold them at the proper angle for the guns rack.
