I’m American, although I did live in the UK for about a year.

That said, I don’t recall ever seeing canned custard. What is the purpose of it? Just to eat, or is it more of a baking ingredient?

You can either eat it as is, or warm it up and pour it over your dessert. The latter is the better option, but there's no reason you can't just crack it open and skran.

This has reminded me of my favorite British canned food that we don’t (widely) have in the US: mushy peas. Damn I could use a can or two . . .

A quick Google search should yield some options for importing it. Amazon might very well have it in stock.
