1. Know how exhausting it is to hear people start sentences with “I’m an attorney”.

  1. You should know that “fireable offenses” have nothing to do with anymore in our capitalist hellscape.

  2. You don’t need any more liability than anyone upstream who sees this photo and didn’t want it to be public. That could be Elton just wanting to be private. That could be someone who bought it for Elton not wanting the surprise ruined. That could be a manager who wants to be able to promise future customers discretion.

So…. Go be a lawyer somewhere else where you know what you’re talking about.

OK. Here we go. Just because there is no NDA does not mean that OP can post these pictures completely free from consequences.

Let's say that Elton John sees his name attached to a fairly crappy looking guitar. And then he says "hey, Gibson, why are your people posting all of these pics of my guitar? And why does it look like shit?"

And then the Gibson exec sends out an email to all the managers asking, "why are people posting pics of partially finished guitars that look like shit, and claiming that Elton John is actually paying for this crap? Find out who did it and fire them. They should know better."

And then OP is fired. Consequences for actions... no NDA in sight.

I have seen several people fired for posting pictures of stuff at work.

Much like free speech doesn't mean I can tell my boss to "eat a dick" without expecting to get written up/fired... not having an NDA does not give people the freedom to post pictures of things at work and not suffer consequences. All it means is that Elton John can't sue for breach of contract or recover losses from posting the pictures.

Nobody said free speech and it wouldn't be a free speech issue I would be a privacy issue and that is where you were so close too. Also self proclaimed Montana lawyers have piped in as well and said it's not a right to work state and more like a union. The worst that could happen is policy change and training.

Also I don't think it looks like shit because I know exactly what was done to it and what was lacking still.. dam thing will be perfect by the time it's finished.

And no- if there is a company policy against posting pictures or if posting the pictures brings severe consequences to the company, then there will absolutely be consequences for the poster. I've worked for union companies. Theybalways have a catch-all policy for "don't do stupid things." If you fuck up so bad that you cause serious problems, then it can absolutely cause problems.

Unless explicit permission has been given, then posting pictures like this is a horrible idea. No matter how many "but if... but iffs..." you come up with, the question is legitimate and it absolutely does not fall to "tHeRe ISn'T aN nDA!!1!1!!"

Maybe the company does allow this. Then fantastic. But that info wasn't provided. So, unquestionably, there is a concern about posting these pictures.

No, it's like at the 80% mark. In the touch up phase from putting in the inlays then finish. Then off to frets, strings and so on. there are more pics in comments that show it hanging along with other guitars that look amazing..

i'm pretty confident when it's done it looks perfect, as far as everyone worried about my cousin getting in trouble... he has been posting stuff for 10 + years seriously down to the dam tree's they pick for the wood. I don't think he would post as much publicly as he does if they had any sort of worry about this.. He's a very stand up guy and I just thought this was mildly interesting so I shared. edit/update here is a pic of one of the trees he's posted before and the type of guitar I think it went in. I know he likes the tree picking part and takes it super seriously. Obviously the tuners are put in right at the end. The question of "is it finished" refers to the actual finish and inlay work on the guitar, something which gibson is notirious for fucking up.

They would have to tell you not to do that... and I'm pretty sure they know people are taking pictures... SO SO SO many of them have multiple staff members posing with them. I think my family member is semi high up in the world of making them also as he has been with the company for over a decade and is considered a master having started as a guy with carpentry / painting skills. It actually seems like a really cool company to work for, they do all sorts of raffles and pot luck things and even give away free unused wood to the community

Montana does not have at-will employment. You have to fire someone “for cause” and that’s a very high bar under our laws. So, no, you can’t just fire someone for no reason. And even if they did have a policy that didn’t allow this, they’d have to give him multiple warnings before they fired him and a chance to correct his behavior. Welcome to the law in place without at-will.

For generic custom shop items they start around 4k. I wanted a signed guitar from my family member with the signature under the finish...Just because I thought it would be cool to have in the family and pass down or something... I didn't exactly get told no... I just got told the STARTING price. I love guitars as much as the next person but I'm not a pro and there is no way I can justify that.... I'm crossing my fingers that's his white elephant gift for xmas some day!

I mean you can get a super high quality (higher quality than gibsons for sure) guitar for like 2k from a custom builder/luthier. And they will custimize it in any way you want, unlike gibson (or any other major name brand custom shop for that matter).

I have no idea... 2 people said "that's awesome" and they got down voted. We got local state lawyers saying "this is cool nothing to worry about" and keyboard warriors mad at them because oh no you took a picture of something.. there's 0 personal info and I hid anything remotely compromising. Then you have the people who are like "it's not real... it's fake" and it's one of those situations you're like... well.. it's real...and only slightly feel obligated to defend it's authenticity... I mean seriously I could of posted this to other subreddits about guitars and they would of went nuts .. but I thought it was mildly interesting so I posted it here...again I didn't even know the guy played the guitar. Oh well.. I'm just hoping someone enjoyed the content.

think what you want man. I have provided more than enough proof to show it is legit. However, it appears all of the work starts out like that and they fix it up before they put the finish on them. You can veiw the other comments with galleries of photos to put your mind at ease. Reverse image search them if you like and see they are OC.

think it's his order, that's what my cousin said and it's got his name on the order slip and they really don't make to many 1 off orders. My cousin does racks of the same guitars all the time with custom ones mixed in. you can see the order slip here only thing I hid was the sku to keep people from faking it should it be extremely valuable some day https://imgur.com/a/qAByvfF it's very plan jain but high quality otherwise. I didn't even know he played the guitar but the man is very talented so who knows.

I'm going to be candid, I have no clue what some of the things on that invoice say or mean. You can see the same invoice hanging in the body of the guitar and when combined with the other photo's I shared.. yea not sure how you would fake a guitar manufacturing facility and have people put on Gibson shirts.. trust me it's not worth the effort for internet points... especially when I have already made the front page ... twice.. What I was trying to express is you had a freudian slip because you're seeing his name everywhere with the twitter merger.. lord knows I can't go a day with out seeing EM in some headline or 100's of posts. Our brains are really complex and many people read by scanning. So your brain seen EL and just auto filled in the rest. yea I think this was taken right after the inlays were put in they totally overhaul it and he was just showing off the custom inlay that was put in by hand. I would say it's at the 80% mark in this pic

Is Gibson still making their custom acoustics up in Bozeman? I get what people are saying about posting custom orders and unfinished work. I’m guessing most of these finishes will get buffed and sanded (they look grainy as hell). Cool looking inlay. I kind of like gawking, but some amount of restraint posting the work of famous people is probably a better idea.
