I rewatched WHAS today and noticed a number of things that I missed in the past. The most perplexing one is a few shots of Gene (Christopher Meloni) towards the end. When Molly Shannon confronts her ex at the talent show, you can see Gene behind her, all dressed up and talking to an unfamiliar business-y looking woman. Then as everyone is leaving the next day, you see Gene getting into a car with the same woman. It seems like there was an additional subplot around this that was cut. Anyone have any idea what that subplot was? A brief Google search didn't come up with anything.

I remember thinking she was his wife and a powerful business woman or something, like super rich lady who is married to Gene and just lets him has fun being the crazy chef at a summer camp

She's his wife, he introduces her to people in deleted scenes on the DVD.

Thanks! In the prequel he's engaged to Gail, so I guess they decided to drop that entirely.

Oh yeah I'm sure they had no qualms about getting rid of stuff from deleted scenes.

Idk but I’m glad to see something related to Wet Hot American Summer. I loved the movie, the prequel series and I quite enjoyed the sequel series

I had a waiter the other day that was a dead ringer for Christopher Meloni, and it gave me the idea to rewatch it. I feel like we noticed so many more details this time. Now we're on the prequel episodes, which are a lot funnier than I remembered! I think watching the movie first really set the mood.

There's no other scenes, in the finished cut anyway. So the way I took it was that Gene has always had a wife, who clearly looks stable and independent. And while he was losing his shit at the camp, by the end, he's finally rehabilitated himself to being normal and is joining back with his wife.

I remember that vaguely and being perplexed by it. But if you ever watched the creators' previous projects like Mtv's The State, they had a lot of inexplicable shit going on in their bits. I chalked it up to their bizarre sense of humor.

It was a very sophisticated movie with a lot of subtle context it it about the effects of Reaganomics on society, buttered over a seemingly teenage camp story portrayed by a bunch of 30yolds.

I took her as a sight gag about how well Gene was doing once he accepted himself. The joke being the farcical speed he accomplished everything.
He probably had a kid with her and is glad to have finally gotten the tyke into a good pre-school, all of which happened in a day.
