The genre of ‘Dark Suburbia’

I’m looking for film recommendations (also open for book recs too)

I’m looking for some good dark suburbia/suburban dysfunction films and books - I’m talking drama, affairs, rumors/gossip, family dysfunction, gritty sex, implications and innuendos (Example - I love the nuances of the scene in Todd Field’s ‘Little Children’ where the women in the book group are discussing how Madame Bovary’s lover turned her into something ‘compliant and corrupt’ (implying anal sex) as it cuts to a semi-closeup Sarah in bed with Brad, presumably taking it anally - an on-screen example of Madame Bovary’s ‘corruption’ in Sarah’s own affair)

Another example of what I’m thinking of would be Adrian Lyne’s ‘Unfaithful’ - erotic, dramatic, raw, and dysfunctional.

So, getting a general idea of what I’m after, lemme hear those recommendations!

Disturbia fits this to some degree, and I second Blue Velvet as a great example of this genre.

I'll plug the original The Stepford Wives, Blue Velvet, Poltergeist, All That Heaven Allows, A Serious Man, Far From Heaven, The Swimmer, Parents, and the bizarre, little-seen film Neighbors, starring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Cathy Moriarty --which plays like a loony, sexual Twilight Zone episode.
