People forget that he was excellent in The A-Team because the movie sucked.

I thought that movie was a lot of fun.

You're not alone. That cast was so stacked.

Jertimmer t1_jae57j2 wrote

Yup, very fun movie, exactly what I wanted out of a A-Team movie. Coply was an excellent Murdock, carried the same sense as the character while making it his own.

SQUID_FUCKER t1_jae66ws wrote

Yeah, I think it's biggest problem is that it was released sandwiched right between The Losers and The Expendables, all only months apart so it got lost in the shuffle and fell off but I really didn't think it sucked at all and most people I know who actually saw it did really enjoy it too.

Jertimmer t1_jae94e5 wrote

I actually watch those three back to back when I'm on a sick day

As far as stupid reboots no one asked for goes, it is top tier. It knows exactly what it is- an absolutely ridiculous film where you can tell everyone working on it had a goddamn blast. It's a comedy that makes fun of the source material and the very idea of doing an A-Team reboot without being overtly meta. They fly a tank in it, and for that alone it's gold.

The scene with the tank shooting the ground while it parachuted down to a lake is one of my favorite action setpieces ever. Whenever I see big action things in planes in movies like in Uncharted or The Gray Man or that one Mission Impossible I forget which one, it never satisfies me quite the way that A Team scene did. It felt like a perfect cartoon-meets-real-life style, which is a sweet spot that Marvel usually tries to aim for, but yeah, A Team has become totally overlooked.

It was way cooler than the Expendables, but like not as cool as John Wick. Or it was somewhere between the original Predator movie with the macho dudes in a crazy yet realistic action universe like Kick Ass

Even the OG Murdock actor gave some credit to his performance.

I actually liked it, but that comment was hilarious. Reminded me of Todd Barry's standup bit about how his doctor told he needed to eat more fruit. "You know the thing about fruit that they don't tell you? The dirty little secret about fruit? Fruit sucks."

I like fruit and enjoyed the A-team but both comments make me chuckle.

Seriously? No one has said District 9?

By far his best performance imo, straight up carries the movie.

Jimmy.

A stuntman wearing a gopro films Sharlto Copley chewing scenery, and I am there for it.

That’s the best short description of Hardcore Henry I’ve ever heard.

That movie was so good! The director’s next movie Nobody with Bob Odenkirk was a big hit but I was disappointed because it wasn’t as batshit awesome as Hardcore Henry was.

Tough one, maybe Jimmy. He is also good in Ted K and Open Grave

SQUID_FUCKER t1_jadvnif wrote

Is Ted K worth checking out?

5

bugxbuster t1_jaerzl3 wrote

Ted K is totally worth watching and probably unlike pretty much anything you imagine it would be like going in. Stylistically it’s very clear that it’s a visionary filmmaker’s passion project. Weirdly unique movie, but it’s fantastic. I feel like I got a lot out of it, and it’s like bold choice after bold choice that I really got a kick out of. Sharlto is in every scene and he does for the Unabomber what Charlize Theron did as Aileen Wournos in Monster, really humanizes and sheds light on a dark deeply disturbed person’s perspective.

2

SQUID_FUCKER t1_jaew2zy wrote

There was another miniseries about him called Manhunt that was pretty good where Paul Bettany played Ted. I really enjoyed that one, will be interested to check out Ted and see how the two compare. Manhunt humanized him quite a bit as well.

bugxbuster t1_jaex8ka wrote

Steer clear of the older movies about him. They did a couple like a decade ago, but the main character is a bear and he smokes weed instead of bombing people. Totally not accurate.

Hardcore Henry since that is where I first saw him. When I saw him in season 2 of Russian doll I was for sure he was going to be great, but season 2 wasnt like season 1 so I don't think he was able to do his thing.

District 9 was a revelation and blew me away.

Tbh he’s been great in nearly everything he’s done, he almost always brings his A game.

All of them equally, except the Oldboy remake.

That wasn’t a good performance in a shitty movie, that was a shitty movie with an even shittier Sharlto Copley performance. He had no idea what to do with that character.

Literally everything else he did is gold.
