Just watched the “what don’t you want?” diner scene from Hell or High Water (2015) and it got me thinking of how many of my favorite scenes are diner shots!

When Henry Hill realizes he won’t come back from the trip as he’s chatting with Jimmy Conway in Goodfellas (1990); when Marge Gunderson has the world’s most awkward encounter with Mike Yanagita in Fargo (1996); The infuriating “I don’t tip “ scene from Reservoir Dogs (1992)… What‘s your favorite?

I feel super ashamed to say I have never seen this movie. I know they get burgers cuz the royale with cheese restaurant is named after it. And I know there’s dancing (cuz the Simpsons did a parody of it iirc).

Heat. The performance between Deniro and Pacino is just fantastic.

Okay I’m gonna have to rewatch this movie! Can’t recall most of it since I was like 8 when I saw it (older siblings should never be in charge of movie choices when there’s no supervision).

Crikey, you HAVE to watch it as an adult. Its a damn good film and it has one of the most iconic diner scenes.

One of the best slow methodical character study movies, akin to Glengarry Glenross. DeNiro and Pacino are at the top of their games!

Love this movie! Walter is my favorite character, by far. My friend and I have a fledgling YouTube channel and we just released a 25th Anniversary review - check it out if you're needing a distraction

for comedy, Spaceballs has got to be mine. Funny thing, I hadn’t seen Alien by that point (I did later when I was 12) so John Hurt’s cameo whooshed over me. But when I finally saw the ‘79 movie, things started clicking in my head when it came to the dinner scene. To say I was horrified would be an understatement, that scene shook me for a the rest of the day

I honestly think seeing Spaceballs first compounded the horror effect in Alien

Oh I love spaceballs! Now I gotta watch Alien and be horrified.

There's that whole tense scene in 'History of Violence' where Vigggo Mortensen is trying so hard to be polite to the thugs that come into his diner, but he knows that they mean trouble.

Hmm it is a crime thriller that is a mystery. Like seven without the gore. The movie is a mediation on obsession.

The opening convo between Denzel and Ethan hawke in training day. Filmed in the same diner as the scene in old school when the manager guy says the godfather gets everything on the house, much to Mitch’s chagrin lol. Probably wouldn’t add the old school one to a “best diner scene” list but the training day one belongs for sure.

When Harry Met Sally - Sally faking an orgasm and the woman saying "I'll have what she's having"

What truly elevates the moment is that the woman in question is Rob Reiner's mom and Meg Ryan wasn't faking it right.

Rob Reiner sat down acted out the scene and faked an orgasm himself completely forgetting he had his mom on set.
